a well done war movie can convey great emotion and meaning/vaue of life

True. In this instance, it's a Kubrick thing. His Eyes Wide Shut has also been reassessed. It would be the first English language film I put on the subjective list.

Yeah, that's not unexpected. I have it lower in my Bergman rankings because I don't feel it quite meets its cultural significance. And I probably should have added The Sacrifice on my subjective list instead of Stalker, leaving Ordet as the only film on both lists.

I guess I've been thinking about an objective list for a while, but the subjective list is of my personal favourites. I maintain lists of favourites, things to see, etc. With the exception of Rifkin"s Festival, I've seen every Woody. It's like that with a lot of directors. It necessitates keeping lists. I know guys like you that don't. I can't do that. I'm a list guy. And we aren't talking about a few dozen. I've got hundreds of lists -- some are kept in an orderly fashion, others I scribble onto paper. It's how my mind works.

A well done war movie but it could not replicate the impact of the book which was outstanding.

so many critics disliked this
so many people will never watch it
but there are things you can get out of it if you have a soul
