Jays is up at the 2nd wild card spot again. The race between Jays, Rangers, Mariners and maybe Astros has been interesting.

Wainwright 200! Can't believe he dominated after the year he's had lol. Brewers were helpless, made weak contact all night.

Acuņa going off again. Strider just can't avoid the big inning it seems, never bought his Cy Young candidacy.

Re: MLB Season Discussion Thread: 2023
40/70 is happening people. What a season.
And one mistake to Bryce Harper still doesn't dilute Strider's dominant performance. 11 k's and now 8-0 versus Philly lifetime. It'll be hard not to give him the CY, but I do think his proclivity to give up the homer ball is what will lose it for him. Impressive dominant season for a second-year star nonetheless.

After going round and round earlier in the thread I will face the music... you picked the right horse with Snell.

I miss back in the day when you could be certain a guy throwing a no hitter wouldn't be pulled until he had at least given up a hit. It's not like the Padres are playing for anything either, I would let Snell go for it here if he wanted to **** a pitch count.

Acuna slash lines by month:
April- .352/.440/.546 .986 OPS
May- .298/.372/.561 .934 OPS
June- .356/.429/.683 1.111 OPS
July- .326/.423/.494 .918 OPS
August- .353/.432/.574 1.006 OPS
September- .348/.410/.768 1.178 OPS
Just remarkable consistency.

Sorry more Acuna stuff: His 291 hard-hit balls this year (for those who don't know, that's exit velocity over 95mph) are 51 more than Vladimir Guerrero Jr who is in second. 51 less than Guerrero would put us at Manny Machado, who is 29th in the league.
Absolutely lapping the field.

Vlad Jr stinks this year though, so kind of a pointless stat.

How is the amount of times you hit the ball hard a pointless stat. That’s the goal literally every time a guy steps into the box. Of course it’s not the only thing. You’d have to of course consider fly ball rate, line drive rate, and launch angle.
But Guerrero with that many hard hit balls and a very low BABIP suggests that he’s having a rather unlucky year at the plate, which happens sometimes.

Hard hit balls are more likely to be base hits or homeruns so yeah, that stat holds some weight in baseball. That's why Acuņa hits pop fly homeruns. His launch angle combined with his bat speed and virtually every ball he puts in the air has the potential to fly out of the ballpark.

I have no idea how we beat the Braves or Orioles in a series ![LOL](http://www.insidehoops.com/forum/images/smilies/lol.gif)
It took Adam Wainwright pitching like it was 2010 for us not to get swept in 4 games by the Brewers.

Playoff teams will use neutral pitch clock operators.
