A little Bruce Lee for ya to think less, and feel more in life.

Lee be speaking Zen the belief of living in the moment.

Also just because something is simple doesn't make it an easy task to accomplish. Even mundane unimportant things in our societys behaviors have become addictions.

Clarity can only be understood by those who are clean.

That it's prevalent, misunderstood, under considered and is a vicious cycle that leads it's user into mental atrophy, which can only be deterred by a candid pursuit of self-actualization..external forces can only help once the individual crosses the line of acceptance.

Although I agree with self-actualization being able to eliminate it, in the mean time I really think people need to understand that addiction is just a word. And that word has negative connotations in it, so it puts people into that much MORE of a box to be labelled as an addict. I don't know addiction is a tricky subject, but i think what's available is doing more hard them good. Its pushing people away from self actualization and a world where people need crutches to function. We've created a billion dollar pharmaceutical industry, so that dictates a lot now moving forward in regards to control..

    2. Alcohol and cigarettes. Both messed with my head emotionally for various reasons. I'm sober over a year now. 22 days smoke free. It gets you in that state of mind of, ok now what else can i do to improve my life? No crutches and that's whats increased my confidence. I think everyone should want to personally develop on a daily basis in a very natural way. That's how you reach self actualization and your Zen place. You can't get there on prozac. That's medically induced. I don't get the fuss about weed ( i don't smoke anymore), when doctors prescribe anti depressants to people on a daily basis that turns them into zombies.

Well giving up an addiction isn't self actualization itself and also isn't Zen.

Also I wouldn't know about your situation but many other people are dealing with heightened negative circumstances that prevents making changes, be an easy task. Those negative circumstances being continual fuel that propels the addiction or harmful behavior forward.

No, what I mean is with me for example, quitting alcohol meant that i would have to change my lifestyle. I was unhappy when I was drinking. The type of places i was going, and the people i was surrounding myself with. Now, i'm doing different things and meeting different people. My days feel more enriched. I feel fulfilled at the end of the day. I feel i'm on the path towards self-actualization. My career goals for starters have completely changed. Self-actualization is a life journey. I just feel I've corrected my path.

I hear you on the last part. It's why I recommend meditation/yoga to everyone to center oneself daily, and to chip away at those things to begin fulfilling their needs, but even then it's not easy.

depends on who i'm drinking with. I drink with some people I grew up that I'm not particularly fond of and tend to drink a little more so I will be able to stand them more (lol). When it's friends in college, it's just enough to get a buzz.

I only stick with beer now too. I usually take down 6 beers, feel a slight buzz and I'm good with that.

I agree those are definitely good methods to build a good foundation. For those who can maintain it, it definitely works.

That's good man. Always know your limits and to do things in moderation. Discipline is cooler/sexier then being sloppy, and women notice.

Do stuff you want/need to do regardless of how terrible it feels/seems and just take it in for a while. You'll see that you will survive and that will give you confidence.
