I love MJ, but in none of those photos is he any higher than eye-level with the rim. In every shot, the angle makes him look higher than he really was.

he's 6'6", and if the top of his head is 4 inches over the rim, that would mean it reached 10'4"... so just do the subtraction and you get 46 inch vertical.

and all those photos were either in-game or dunk contest environments where he was contorting his body and trying to dunk, as opposed to using optimal jumping form like he would in a testing environment to max his vertical.
