Kobe just made the announcement so that he could shoot as much as he wants without recourse.
He's already 0-5 tonight and 0-3 from three. He's probably missing on purpose to make a point to his team; this is my show and i'll miss every damn shot I want to and you won't do shit about it.
Kobe will be playing for a contender next season.

OP is half right. Kobe made this announcement so the media will spend the rest of the season kissing his ass instead of roasting him for his pathetic play.
