Deshaun Watson
Texans QB Deshaun Watson has requested to be traded
https://www.nfl.com/news/texans-qb-d...d-to-be-traded
Deshaun Watson officially wants out of Houston.
The Pro Bowl quarterback has requested to be traded by the Texans, NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported. Watson negotiated a no-trade clause in the extension he signed last summer and, by virtue of his contract, would decide what places would be acceptable, Rapoport added.
The trade request transpired a few weeks ago and teams have already been calling the Texans in attempts to acquire Watson, per Rapoport and NFL Network's Tom Pelissero. The organization, though, has said privately it's not trading the face of its franchise, NFL Network's Mike Garafolo reported.
Don't really see this trade happening... Houston would probably want more than two 1st round picks. Who would give that much up?

Re: Deshaun Watson
You obviously don't understand the value that teams place on a 25 year old, top 5 QB who is signed through 2025.
Khalil Mack got two firsts. Enough said.

I understand the value... And like I said... Houston would want more than two firsts.
The problem is, when you draft a player in the first round... their rookie contract isn't over $100 million.
High first round draft picks are talented players that don't kill your salary cap space.
CeeDee Lamb cost $14 million over 4 years at the 17th pick. That's a bargain. $3.5 million per year.
Watson costs $30 million per year over 3 years. No bargain.

So Raiders ended up with
(24th) RB Josh Jacobs: 4 years @ $12 million
(19th) CB Damon Arnette: 4 years @ $13.5 million
vs
Khalil Mack who averages $23 million per year.
Jacobs and Arnette will combine for an average of $6.5 million per year.
see the price difference?
Obviously I'd rather have Khalil Mack over Jacobs & Arnette but I'm paying 4x the cost.

Every single Houston sports team absolutely imploding.
Astros karma'd their entire city. Never cheat the game.

Re: Deshaun Watson
Draft picks are unknown. It's illogical to use draft hits as evidence why teams won't do it. Half of first round picks are busts or just replaceable players.
Watson is known. No guessing involved.
Jets #2 + Seattle pick they got from Adams trade could easily get it done. Maybe Darnold + #2 could even do it.
#2 has a tremendous value. It's not a normal first rounder that is typically involved in trades for established players.

Re: Deshaun Watson
Jets do have some fire power in this year's draft... but Watson is not gonna want to play for that organization.

NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported Thursday on NFL NOW that the Panthers will be "aggressive" in pursuit of the 25-year-old QB.
"Don't sleep on the Carolina Panthers," Rapoport said. "They are a team that I'm told is going to be aggressive in potentially acquiring Deshaun Watson."
The Panthers have a lot to like. It's a relatively young roster with room to grow. There are young studs on defense (Brian Burns, Jeremy Chinn) . The offense has high-caliber weapons (Christian McCaffrey, D.J. Moore , Robby Anderson).

Well $hit...
looks like that's the most likely scenario then.
Wonder if the Texans would be interested in Darnold...
one proposal I just read suggested it would cost the Jets #2, #23 and a future 1st
Jets need to avoid giving up that 2022 first round pick imo.
Darnold, #2 and #23 seems like a good deal for both teams.... Texans don't have a first or second in this year's draft.

We need to get Stafford. The AFC east bout to become the home of good QBs

If I was the Jets GM, this would be a red flag for me. Why on earth would any good QB ever want to join the Jets... especially when that QB is citing franchise incompetence as the reason he wants to leave his current team in the first place?

Re: Deshaun Watson
He thinks highly of the new head coach there.
Jets could turn this around fairly quickly. They will have to give up a lot of draft capital for Watson but they have a lot of it due to the Adams trade and Darnold could bring back at least a second rounder.
They have a lot of money to spend. New York is a nice free agent destination.

Re: Deshaun Watson
IMHO a nice destination for a higher end QB like Deshaun would be somewhere like Chicago, Minnesota, Tennessee... A team that would become an elite team if they had an elite QB.
The jets are somehow even weaker on skill players than the Texans, and somehow the Jets owner seems just as incompetent as the texans owner
