Before my time but Montana was clutch af. No interceptings in 4 Super Bowl victories
Unlike MJ , he does have competition with Brady for GOAT argument. The current era has been protecting QBs since 2010ish so they aren't washed up by age 35 anymore.

Montana was the goat of his era. The game from the 80’s to today isn’t really comparable due to both rule changes and stylistic changes in the league. When trying to do comparisons across eras it’s impossible to ignore the level of protection not only QB’s but also what WR’s get.

If Brady entered the league in the early 80’s…he would not be having the longevity he is benefiting from today. End of story. This is an irrefutable statement.

Does that mean you should take away those accomplishments from him? No but they need to be taken with a grain of salt. And also it’s worth noting that while across the board we have seen increased longevity from players, none has done it like Brady. That means something.

Like basketball or all sports for that matter, it’s impossible to have a definitive goat spanning across all the different eras. They were playing different games. Similar games but ultimately very different.

Lets not ignore the fact that Montana benefited in playing with the greatest offensive coach the game has ever seen in Bill Walsh, his west coast offense was years ahead of his time.
