Luckily, it will not be a case of AI suddenly replacing all jobs all at once causing mass chaos and hell. It will be a case of AI slowly taking out one sector at a time. And I think what will happen is that once unemployment hits a really bad spot, like 25% or so, then society will say "okay we have to implement UBI there is no other option". And then that will be that.
UBI is not really socialism btw.
Pray, where will the government get the money to do UBI if 25% of the population is unemployed (not enough taxes)? There would be only be control of the remaining "producing" industries/sectors.

His post was very telling, especially the part where said humanity's goal was to reach a point where they didn't have to work. As if he alone speaks for all of humanity and knows what our end goal should be.
Also, who the hell wants a future where no one works? That also sounds like hell. Work provides balance. You can't just live a life of excess and not have any responsibility or contribute anything to society. Even Jesus worked as a carpenter.
This is why I always say the woke losers secretly loved the Covid lockdowns. It gave them a chance to stay home all day without the feeling of guilt. Not only that they got to pretend like they were doing something righteous and virtuous. They were saving lives by staying home. They were sticking it to the Trump by staying home.

That sounds like hell to me, but by all means you're free to keep wishing.
No that is not how UBI works. Every citizen is free to go out and get as rich as they can. But every citizen also gets a base salary that pays for food, electricity, bare necessities.
Eventually though, far enough down the road, it's going to get weird. Because AI and automation will make material items so cheap and plentiful to create, that it will get to the point that money itself is not needed. Just, everyone has everything. Very few humans working at all. But of course, if you WANT to work, you can. Your life is up to you.

Modern Monetary Theory. They will essentially just "print it up" and whatever currency they control they will destroy to keep inflation in check. Obviously much more complex than that but that is it in layman's terms.

They can only print it up so much before people don't trust/want your currency. They're already doing that as seen by the lessening demand for US treasuries. Gold, silver and bitcoin.

That is inflation you are talking about. They have to keep that in check, yes.
I mean, they are more or less doing it now. Our tax dollars are not spent, it is just money they remove from circulation to keep inflation in check. When our Gov needs money? They do not wait to collect it all in taxes first. They just draw a bill, print it up and spend it.
On a local state level? That is where you find tax dollars used the way people think they are used.

How does that work? In order for the government to be able to hand out money, they need to generate money first. Where are they getting all this money from if only a small portion of the population is working and generating tax revenue?
Also I'm curious, what exactly are you contributing to the system if you're not working and just collecting a check? How can the system sustain itself if everyone is drawing from it without giving anything back?
Lol like how is that a fair trade? So the government (taxpayers) ensure that you collect free money, and in return they get... what? What are you providing? You should be entitled to free money because you live and breathe?

We are at the doorstep of an era where humans no longer need to "contribute". The end game will have AI do all of our thinking and robots doing all of our hard labor. While humans essentially do nothing but tweak the AI to our liking. This is a process that will take decades, and you will likely not live to see the outcome but just the transition. Unless AI extends your life that long, because it will figure out how to cure cancer, edit DNA, etc.
This is what humanity has been working toward. Better standard of living, making everything in life easier for us. You can do with your life what you choose, and not slave to put food on the table. That is actual freedom.

You are imagining a Star Trek world with no money and replicators for any food you wish - although ironically, Star Trek didn't have robots doing the work.
I can see governments taxing robots, autonomous devices/cars, etc. But how much can one tax companies so that it is still worthwhile for them to continue to operate and advance technology. Unless, you expect the AI to be BENEVOLENT and take care of us instead of viewing us as USELESS beings (which we will be as we're not contributing anything productive).

As an aside, kudos to Star Wars which had money AND robots (R2-D2 and CP3O).

This is moot because you're still going to need food and shelter. The "bare necessities" as you put it. Those things cost money to provide and maintain.
If nobody is working and there is no tax revenue, where is this money coming from?

From a monetary standpoint, things are going to get weird eventually. UBI will only hold up so long. When we get to a point where farmers are no longer needed and our food source is completely automated, it will eventually just be free. Everything will be. Solar powered, self upkeep. No humans required. Money will no longer be needed.
It will be like Star Trek sans the space travel, and the "beam me up" part lol
This is a ways off. UBI will hold for a while, like 50 years or so. Basically for us. Actually it's really difficult to gauge the timeline on this because once that final gap of AI gets crossed, where it is going beyond what it finds on the internet and is able to extend it's patterns into something greater than what humans can do? Once that line is crossed, it might just fly. It could immediately know what needs to be done.

It will come from "modern monetary theory". Look into it. As AI starts to slowly remove jobs, which is already happening, it will get to where our unemployment gets too high and we realize there is just not enough work for everyone to do something and things are only going to get worse. That is when UBI will be implemented. It will come from the Gov "printing it up" which is an archaic way of saying it because now money is more or less just numbers inside a computer system.

Right, so the government:
- Creates the money
- Generates the money
- Decides what every person is worth
Congrats, you're a slave.
You have an awful lot of faith and trust in government, and you seem awfully willing to put your entire well being and quality of life into their hands.

Generates and creates are the same thing, and no the Gov will not decide your worth. You are still free to get rich on your own. UBI just insures that everyone can feed and house themselves without working. Because work is going to become more and more scarce, thanks to technology.
Slave is what you are now. Where you have to - well slave - to live.
