Both obviously skilled, but Embiid has a bigger bag and a higher ceiling overall. Ewing's durability probably gives him the edge though. From 88-97, the guy averaged like 80 games per year. Totally insane for someone with his build.

Not even close. Pre knee injury Ewing was an entire different beast. His motor and toughness total different level and he had a middy jumper. He averaged prime embiid numbers in a golden era of centers. And led his teams way further through the playoffs.

Shit... if Ewing had a player like Jimmy Butler instead of Starks as his 2nd option they would've been 1994 champions.

Talent wise I would say that Embiid has the edge. He is probably the most skilled center since Olajuwon.

I would still take Ewing though. He was skilled enough and brought better intangibles. Way tougher than Embiid.

Embiid is clearly more offensively talented, this is clearly evident by the valley between their points per possession. But, he plays in an era with nearly no Center competition, and softer physicality and defense.

Ewing is not only the better defender, but also more durable and a much better leader. If I'm trying to win a title, I don't need a lazy flopping player with a terrible diet and habits. It never wins. I world have to take Ewing here.

If you merged the mindset and work ethic of Duncan into Embiid's skill and talent, you might have a GOAT candidate. But unfortunately you're sick with a guy who reached only 80% if his potential.

Ewing had to play Shaq, Hakeem, Robinson, Mutumbo, Mourning, Smits 2-4 times a year. Joel has an overall talent edge but it doesn't really matter when the competition level isn't remotely the same. I think alot of people also remember Ewing in the 90s when he had bad knees and was more lumbering than he was in the 80s, when he had much more spring to his game. He was considered one of, if not the best, shooting bigs ever by that point so it's reasonable to imagine him having the innate touch to expand his range in today's era.
