Why nervous? Lol
Coach Cal on VJ
"I told Philly fans a year ago that JE was gonna be a gem and that Maxey was the steal of the draft as his former coach at Kentucky back when he fell to 21 , I'm telling you now that VJ is the best guard In this draft. If I was the coach at Kentucky last year I swear I could've landed him because of our "GUARD" reputation. He's everything you want on and off the court. I tried to steal him from Baylor but it wasn't meant to be. I keep seeing Philly as his mock destination and those fans should be estatic knowing Maxey & Him + McCain will be in that backcourt for years to come. Nurse is getting one hell of a player If that's what Philly decides to do. VJ is one of those guys that after you see him in person realize why he's so highly sought after. He's better than people know........
Later on he goes on to say J. Fears is gonna be a an all star with right situation when he was asked which NON TOP 5 prospect is likely to shine... He thinks VJ and Maxey could be Garland & Mitchell "like" in terms of success for an undersized backcourt
- Coach Cal today on 99.5 Radio.
I’m not going to argue, challenge nor question Coach Cal when it comes to NBA productive guards. His resumes speaks volumes. lol I’ll be eating some crow I see.

Did you see that your Governor was telling the team not to draft Ace?

VJ isn't that undersized BTW. He measured 6'4 w/o shoes.

If they're not feeling the other draftees, Philly should say F it and draft Ace like they did Barkley. Call his bluff; what's he going to do? If he's good enough he'll get his chance over the next 4 years to get that big 2nd contract.

Ace is a bit of a project. It will take awhile for him to develop good habits. VJ and Tre are definitely more advanced and ready to contribute right now. Morey has to be thinking about his job security at this point.
Ace does some wild stuff at times. Early in the season I posted on a wizards board that I couldn't pick him top 5 because of all the negative plays. He started playing better right after that but he has a ways to go to be effective.

I am not a fan of having Cooper as the primary ball handler. It might help his development but it also might hurt his confidence because he will surely struggle. He doesn't have the handles of LeBron or Luka.

I don’t know if they’ll actually do it in the regular season. In summer league it makes sense though to let him handle it and let it fly.

Re: Cooper Flagg Discussion Thread
I wouldn't worry, it's way too early to make that call. Everything is progressing nicely, and even if he becomes great on-ball, it'd be a waste to limit him to a heliocentric role. His off-ball game could become lethal - the movement shooting, spot-up shooting & closeout dribble-drives, the cutting, the screen & roll, the pick & post. For all we know, he could become a Lauri-like off-ball threat.
LeBron's handle looked shaky in Summer League play; he had trouble bringing the ball up the court at times. Had a nine-point, two-rebound, one-assist, five-turnover game in twenty-four minutes.
IMO, LeBron's athleticism & 245-to-260-pound-plus, wide-bodied frame has always covered for certain deficiencies in handling the ball. A functional handle is a functional handle, but James' handle has always lacked a flexible fluidity & lateral quality. He can look/has looked stiff, mechanical, and rigid at times.
Not so with Luka. Doncic is truly impressive dribbling the ball. Cooper's handle is more like LeBron's & Giannis' when you account for the confounding variables (size, athleticism). Has a wide body to shield the ball, but is not quite as heavy, strong, and explosive as James. However, he's got a longer stride/covers more ground per dribble. More like Giannis. Check the near-dunk against SAS.

I think Lauri (2022-23) might be the only player with 100+ dunks & 200 made threes in a season. Flagg might be someone who can hit that mark with regularity.

Cooper Flagg's summer league days are over, according to Marc Stein. The Mavericks are expected to shut down the No. 1 overall pick for the remainder of the Las Vegas Summer League, which means the next time we'll see him in game action will be during the preseason.

I see NOTHING special about his game.. Just look at the highlights from his 2nd summer league game - what waa special??? ... Today's spaced-out format allows ANYONE that commands the ball to get 30 points with a basic repertoire - but he won't command the ball like that alongside Kyrie, AD or Klay, nor will he score well vs that level of comp, so I see him m being a 15 ppg guy for his career. He won't be a big scorer.. again, nothing special about his game where it's like "oh boy horford and jaylen brown better watch out for that".. literally nothing.. An ordinary player just propped up and the ball put in his hands

He’s quite literally 2 and a half years from being able to legally have a beer. At the same age Jordan was about to enter his freshman year of college.

He's already at his ceiling - he can't get better, and there's nothing special about his game
