Isn't he pretty similar to Tatum in this sense? Now that Tatum's jacked he can play the 4 and even contest a lot of the 5s and get 10 boards a game because of his frame and his height. Flagg to me looks like he could be a similar player to JT on both ends. once he develops.

His ability to make a stop on defense, run the break and finish is maybe the best since Lebron.

Grant Hill, Franz Wagner, Clyde Drexler, Pippen, all are within reach as types to aim for.

Needs to improve his handles though of course, that's the main thing, but he's not bad, just not breaking ankles like Grant Hill.

Haha, no. He flopped with 18 seconds left and it resulted in a turnover because he didn't get the whistle and it cost the Mavs the game. Cheater's justice.

With Kyle Kuzma of all people defending him. Kyle ****ing Kuzma.

look clearly Cooper is super athletic and maybe he goes on to be a top 5 player in the league but generational talent type hype? I don't see it. Maybe tho. I've been wrong many times in my life.

The fact is that Cooper might be the most hyped prospect since LeBron. Do you honestly think he ends up better than all the players between LeBron and him? Steph, Wembanyama, Jokic, Luka, Giannis? We really see him being better than those guys?

If you guys re-read the thread title, I litierally said "compared to his hype" and yes I said dogshit for effect.

He is 18 years old and has crazy body coordination and bball IQ, that's what I'm looking at. Posts up, pullup 3 on fastbreak, coast to coast, passing out to the corner, he has figured the modern game out completely already.

For sure he is an All Star next year already if not this year if he keeps going.

Ok so multi time All-Star. Will he be a generational player? What I mean by that is, the best player in the league year after year (besides Wembanyama of ****ing course)

Generational type players re-define what is considered normal for the sport imo. We have only had LeBron and Steph get drafted and reach those heights in their prime post 2000. And that's the type of hype that Cooper got pre-draft.

If I were to rank hype since Lebron, Flagg would not be #1. It would be Wemby and you know that.

Maybe. I've heard nothing but Cooper Flagg for the past? What feels like 24 months though.

Zion was more hyped than Flagg also. When the Knicks were praying for the #1 pick to get Zion, he was seen as a bigger potential coup than Ewing was.

As ridiculous as that seems now.

I'm completely ignoring results at the moment and just watching what I see, and it looks like he's already improved quite a bit. Just like last year.

As a prospect, I'm don't think he had the highest upside of anyone since Lebron, but I do think he had one of the highest floors. There's absolutely no way that he isn't at very least a really good player who contributes those strong winning intangibles on a good team.

People forget about the Zion hype, but the Greg Oden hype is basically forgotten at this point, who was picked over KD, Oden was discussed everywhere non-stop before he got drafted. As far as draft hype in the past 25 years my top 3 would be...

    1. LeBron
    2. Wemby
    3. Oden

Then AD & Zion to finish the top 5.

Things are trending in the right direction.

    - 11 GP, 32.7 MPG
    - 15.0 ppg, 6.8 rpg, 3.1 apg, 1.3 spg, 0.6 bpg, 2.2 topg
    - 49.0% 2PT, 26.2% 3PT, 88.9% FT, 51.6% TS

It's really his three-point shot that's been off. If he shot 36.5%, he'd be averaging 16.2 ppg on 55.5% TS. His shooting talent and progression suggest he has significant potential. I'd expect things to pick up. NBA.com's new expected FG% stats (via Amazon) have his expected 3PT% at 35.3% and actual 3PT% at 26.2% 3PT, a -9.1% difference. Expected 3PT% is what the league average is on that specific shot quality.

Since the 1/9, 2 pts OKC game:

    - 7 GP, 33.4 MPG
    - 16.1 ppg, 7.7 rpg, 3.4 apg, 1.4 spg, 0.7 bpg, 2.3 topg
    - 52.2% 2PT, 25.9% 3PT, 84.6% FT, 53.6% TS

    His ppg and TS% over those 7 games would be 17.4 and 57.8 with a 36.5% 3PT.

He already looks like the most versatile player out there. Everything looks good; the shots just haven't been consistently falling. But they will with time. The defensive tape looks good. The transition game is strong (3.6 poss/g [75th percentile], 1.32 ppp [76.2nd percentile]) The positive assist-to-turnover ratio is there.
