Question What do you think about Jalen Duren? Who would you compare him to?

Jalen's in his fourth season and only just turned 22 today (yesterday?). He's currently breaking out in a big way for the first-seeded, 12-2 Pistons. Averages of

    - 28.9 mpg; 12 games played
    - 20.3 ppg, 12.3 rpg (4.6 off), 1.8 apg, 1.0 spg, 1.1 bpg, 2.3 topg
    - 67.4% 2PT (11.0 2pa/g), 78.6% FT (7.0 fta/g), 72.2% TS

Some Synergy & Second Spectrum stats:

    - PnR Roll Man: 1.55 ppp (97th percentile) on 3.2 poss/g (94th percentile)
    - Cut: 1.43 ppp (78th percentile) on 2.5 poss/g (88th percentile)
    - Putback: 1.25 ppp (68th percentile) on 3.3 poss/g (99th percentile)
    - holds opponents -2.5% on 0-6ft rim contests on 4.4 attempts/g
    - 6.2 contested rebounds/g (2nd behind Jokic)
    - 15.2% z-bound percentage [78th percentile] (how often does he rebound his own misses)
    - 2.9 screen assists/g (15th)
    - 3.3 box outs/g (4th)

Paul George physically compared him to Dwight Howard as a rookie. I feel like he's a less physically gifted, but more skilled Dwight. Not as athletic or as wide-framed, but better touch, shooting range & free-throw shooting, and ball handling. He's pulling off some really nice face-up moves out of isolation. Howard could never do that.

Doesn't appear to be the elite rim & paint protector Dwight was. Isiah Stewart was the one with crazy rim protection numbers. Powerful rebounder, but not quite on Howard's level.

    What do you think?

He was definitely not a small forward. Didn't play like one, anyway. He played around the rim and dunked a lot. Like Jalen. And they look like father/son.

I don't care what wikipedia labels him. I watched him play. I know his game. I never said he was an efficient player.

And 6'9 was literally the average height of PF's in the 80's.

    Stop arguing over nothing.

I watched him play too. 6'9 sf were common. You ever heard of larry bird? Not rebounding from the 4 wasnt a thing like it is now. Today he would be a 4/5. He was a 3. Might have spent some time at the 4. Playing around the basket has little to do with his position. Everyone played around the basket.

Last game of his rookie year

    https://www.basketball-reference.com...204180CHI.html

Glimour center yes? Theus sg yes? Lester pg yes? Greenwood traditionally pf 10 rebounds a game. One position left

I think he may have played the 4 at notre dame?
