Default Chris Paul Retiring at the End of the Season

Surprised that there's no thread about this. Over the weekend Paul announced that this will be his last season. He's had a good run.

First ballot HOF career, but has always been overrated. People try to rate him amongst the Wade and Moses tier in that 25-35 range, when in reality he should be in the 40-50 range with the Dwight and Pierce tier.

Should have retired at the end of 23-24. Matter of fact, he should probably walk away after the All-Star break. There's not going to be any farewell tour or video montage playing in opponent arenas, and it must suck playing for the cursed Clippers who are headed to the lottery.

I agree with this. Although I don't think there's any case for ranking him above Dwight.

I don't have him higher than Dwight either. The title really crystallized it for me. Howard was willing to accept a role on a contender doing the dirty work in his dwindling years, while CP chose to get one last payday to start for the Spurs. The pinnacle decision of a career loser.

Chris Paul was making All-NBA Teams in his mid 30's and led his team to the Finals at that age.

By the time Dwight was in his 30's he was basically an afterthought in this league. Made his last all-star at age 28.

Anyone having Dwight ahead of CP3 in an all-time list needs their head examined.

IIrc that guy also had Barkley top 40, so his rankings are a little wacky.

The point I was making is that Chris Paul is the reason that Chris Paul doesn't have a title. Whether it was his girl hamstrings always getting injured, or a terrible performance or -- in the event of the Spurs decision -- selfish pride.

I respect Dwight more despite the shorter peak for being able to carry a team to the Finals as the best player on his team while beating the best player at the time in LeBron. CP has done absolutely nothing that comes close to topping that feat. But, like I said, the sacrifice to win the title compared to CP's pride to start somewhere really solidified that CP is not a winner and that I tip my hat to Dwight on who had the better career of the two.

We already know that you reward choking. That's why you overrate Lebron. So of course you're also going to over-rank CP.

Why do people put Dwayne Wade in the same conversation as Moses Malone and Chris Paul. Look Wade was a fine player in the top ten of SG's of all-time, but he only played like half a career and did nothing without Lebron and Shaq.

CPIII was an elevator of talent which is what you want from a PG, he was the best PG of his generation. He didn't get MVP's for political reasons but his impact was felt on the Hornets, Clippers, Rockets, Thunder, and Suns.

He's top five in steals, assists, and VORP
