trump has essentially gone and joined forces with the same people that he condemned during his campaign. this isn't what maga voted for and they're understandably upset about it.

whatever's going in venezuela obviously has nothing to do with drugs and imo little if anything to do with oil. it could have everything to do with our long history of mucking around and manipulating their politics down there due to our apparent intolerance for leftist regimes and their history of backing of communist causes, going all of the way back to the spanish civil war. that was obviously a long time ago but attitudes haven't changed much down there and who knows how neoconservatives in power feel about all of that. but to threaten war over it? yeah i'm as confused as the next man.

the regime change intent is obvious though and it's my belief that the trump adm are hedging their bets on coercing their way through this. the great concern over this is if it ends up failing, what do we ultimately do, back down and head home? i can't envision that happening.

that's what potentially makes this such a major issue. if we do go in we run the risk of making ourselves responsible for everything that ends up happening down there and ultimately turning it into a bottomless pit of money and resources at a point in time when it couldn't be any more obvious that we can't afford it. plus these things never end up being a swift process and usually end up failing - just look at our recent history.
