    Hot take:

    3pt shots shouldn't count towards FG%.

When the 3pt shot was introduced they didn’t want to fracture existing records and "field goals" already meant any made shot from the floor. They’re grouped together mostly for historical and bookkeeping reasons, not because it makes conceptual sense.

The reason is because a 3 is not just a longer 2. It's different shot altogether with different intent. When you attempt a field goal it's because it's the highest percentage shot you could create at that point in time, but when you shoot a three you are already expecting to miss. You've already resigned to the fact that you're gambling that possession. It's a totally different value proposition. The acceptable miss rate is totally different, that alone should separate them.

A field goal is fundamentally different than a 3-pointer. Lumping then together complicates things for no reason. They measure two different aspects of a player.

Awful take. Severe lack of ball knowledge demonstrated.
