the reason is because by winning the jump ball, the team gains tremendous confidence. winning a jump ball is known to feel the same as hitting a game-winning shot. the losing team receives a shock that will traumatize them throughout the game, which is not possible to recover from, within 24 hours of the jump tip.
it would be great if u did a correlation between won jump ball and won games, i'm sure my theory will be supported.

it was sad when Big Z retired, because when he was in the league, he was one of the best jump ball tippers. he was a legend. that is why the lebron-era cavs won so many games in the regular season.

Star means that the player contested an overtime tip, which I think are the most important tip offs.
