Today's team?

THE PORTLAND TRAIL BLAZERS

PG - Lillard/Mo Williams/Watson
SG - Matthews/McCollum/Crabbe
SF - Batum/Wright/Claver/Barton
PF - Aldridge/Robinson
C - Lopez/Meyers/Freeland

Head Coach - Terry Stotts
General Manager - Neil Olshey

1. Can LaMarcus Aldridge and Damian Lillard be the centerpieces of a championship team?

2. Are you still high on Nicolas Batum's career? Or does it turn out he was overrated?
"The Next Scottie Pippen", remember? I remember....

3. TRUE or FALSE: The Trail Blazers had an excellent offseason.

4. How high are you on Leonard Meyers' potential? Pretty fly for a white guy, eh?
It's Leonard Meyers. Read ISH 5 Q: 76ers Edition. Read Meyers' back story too. Fascinating.

5. TRUE or FALSE: The Portland Trailblazers will make the playoffs this season.

BONUS FUN WITH PRONUNCIATIONS

When Nicolas Batum first came in the league, I read lots of articles on the guy and I thought the pronunciation was Nicholas BATE-um.
I was calling him BATE-um for a long time. Turns out, it's Nicholas Ba-TOOM.

Ba-TOOM? Still just doesn't feel right. To me, he'll always be Nicholas BATE-um.
And Nicholas is such a Master at his craft, I call him the "MASTER BATE-um".

So what other NBA names did you either mispronounce or STILL mispronounce to this day?

"MASTER BATE-um". Get it?

Next up: Sacramento Kings. Have a Five Question suggestion for the Kings? Send me a PM with ideas.

1. Can LaMarcus Aldridge and Damian Lillard be the centerpieces of a championship team?
Yes, but the Lillard has to step his game up more and the team build around them has to be just an absolute perfect fit, so unlikely.

2. Are you still high on Nicolas Batum's career? Or does it turn out he was overrated?
"The Next Scottie Pippen", remember? I remember....
No, he was overrated. He has all the tools, but he puts them together so rarely. He can have great defensive games, and good offensive games, but never does that at the same time it seems. I'm thinking late in his career he will be more consistent, but I'm thinking that will be when he is past his physical prime.

3. TRUE or FALSE: The Trail Blazers had an excellent offseason.
True. They added so much depth, which was pretty much the only reason they missed the playoffs last season.

4. How high are you on Leonard Meyers' potential? Pretty fly for a white guy, eh?
It's Leonard Meyers. Read ISH 5 Q: 76ers Edition. Read Meyers' back story too. Fascinating.
No. He should improve, but I see his peak as a low end starting center.

5. TRUE or FALSE: The Portland Trailblazers will make the playoffs this season.
True. They were in the playoff hunt last season with a far inferior team. They went on a horrible losing streak once injuries caught up with them and they had no depth to make up for it (Guys like Freeland and Claver would be pulled from the D-league and inserted into the starting line-up).

1. Can LaMarcus Aldridge and Damian Lillard be the centerpieces of a championship team?
You need one more perennial All-Star. One more and we're a legitimate threat.

2. Are you still high on Nicolas Batum's career? Or does it turn out he was overrated?

Yes. But you have to set your expectations lower than anything. I never saw him as anything else but a Tayshaun Prince type of player. He still has the ability to be that kind of player but I think injuries are what have been holding him back. He was having a stellar season in 2012-13 until he injured his wrist. Otherwise, the majority of championship teams in the past 10-15 years have won with a guy like Batum on their roster.

3. TRUE or FALSE: The Trail Blazers had an excellent offseason.

I wouldn't say excellent. But I would say we had a pretty damn good offseason. I would still prefer to put ourselves in a position to acquire a top 5 pick this upcoming draft but since we're not, I guess we did as well as we could do.

4. How high are you on Leonard Meyers' potential? Pretty fly for a white guy, eh?

He's quite athletic and has a good physique. You can't teach those. He's a project for sure.

5. TRUE or FALSE: The Portland Trailblazers will make the playoffs this season.

False. We'll get really, really close to the 8th seed but come up short. In fact, as funny as this sounds, I'm really setting myself up for disappointment. We've got chemistry but we're not built to win big. We're going to end up competing with the Clippers, Rockets, Thunder, Warriors, and Wolves for the next 5-8 years. And personally, I'd prefer not to compete with them. I'd rather dominate them. The good news is we're only one all-star away from being an elite team.

No. they need Lebron.

2. Are you still high on Nicolas Batum's career? Or does it turn out he was overrated?
"The Next Scottie Pippen", remember? I remember....

Overrated if he was compared to Pippen. he needs a good coach to train him IMO. he has all the tools.

3. TRUE or FALSE: The Trail Blazers had an excellent offseason.

false. they failed to pick up a true first option.

4. How high are you on Leonard Meyers' potential? Pretty fly for a white guy, eh?
It's Leonard Meyers. Read ISH 5 Q: 76ers Edition. Read Meyers' back story too. Fascinating.

not high. idk the guy.

5. TRUE or FALSE: The Portland Trailblazers will make the playoffs this season.

false. not in the stacked west.

1. Can LaMarcus Aldridge and Damian Lillard be the centerpieces of a championship team?

Depends on if Lillard can develop into a star, and LA can improve his game overall slightly.

2. Are you still high on Nicolas Batum's career? Or does it turn out he was overrated?

He still has room to grow. He was having a great season before the wrist injury.

3. TRUE or FALSE: The Trail Blazers had an excellent offseason.

True. They have a deep bench now, compared to nothing before.

4. How high are you on Leonard Meyers' potential? Pretty fly for a white guy, eh?

Needs to work on defense. He can be a solid starter.

5. TRUE or FALSE: The Portland Trailblazers will make the playoffs this season.

True.

1. Can LaMarcus Aldridge and Damian Lillard be the centerpieces of a championship team?

It's possible, but I don't see it happening.

2. Are you still high on Nicolas Batum's career? Or does it turn out he was overrated?

Very much so. He isn't going to be the guy, but he does everything you want a glue-guy to do.

3. TRUE or FALSE: The Trail Blazers had an excellent offseason.[/b]

True. They had a good draft, acquired a top5 pick and veterans at the 1 and 5 to mentor their young guns. They're also going to be competitive and create a winning culture.

4. How high are you on Leonard Meyers' potential? Pretty fly for a white guy, eh?

Solid centre, probably a starter when all is said and done.

5. TRUE or FALSE: The Portland Trailblazers will make the playoffs this season.

False. They'll be 11-9.

1. Can LaMarcus Aldridge and Damian Lillard be the centerpieces of a championship team?
A -- They can be two of the center pieces, yes. But I believe a third great role player/fringe all-star is necessary. Someone in the mold of a Tyson Chandler or Luol Deng.

2. Are you still high on Nicolas Batum's career? Or does it turn out he was overrated?
A -- He turns 25 in the beginning of this upcoming season. He should be hitting his peak very soon. That said, he's improved his core numbers (p, r, a, s, b) literally every year of his career. I see no reason why he can't peak as a 18/7/5/1.5/1 guy.

3. TRUE or FALSE: The Trail Blazers had an excellent offseason.
A -- Not sure I'd go with Excellent, but certainly one of the better ones in the league. They had a competitive starting five, but their bench routinely let them down. I don't see that being the case this upcoming season. Their bench should be a strength now.

4. How high are you on Leonard Meyers' potential? Pretty fly for a white guy, eh?
A -- I know very, very little about him. Can't make an informed projection. For the current roster, all they need him to do, though, is to be a good backup.

5. TRUE or FALSE: The Portland Trailblazers will make the playoffs this season.

A -- West is tough. Thunder, Spurs, Clippers, Warriors, Rockets, Grizz are all locks. I expect Dallas, Denver, Pelicans, Blazers, Lakers, Wolves to fight for the last two spots... So I definitely think the Blazers are better than Lakers (unless Kobe defies expectations and comes back soon and as good as before), Wolves, and Dallas (with Dirk being the obvious wild card... he is so good). Denver is the safe bet to make, as they have in the past and have superior depth to almost every team in the league..... but I say Pelicans and Blazers make it!!! So yes.

BONUS FUN WITH PRONUNCIATIONS

So what other NBA names did you either mispronounce or STILL mispronounce to this day?
A -- Is it No-Wit-Ski? Or No-Vit-Ski? Short of some little-known bench warmer, that's the closest I have come to a questionable pronunciation.

1. Can LaMarcus Aldridge and Damian Lillard be the centerpieces of a championship team?

Probably not. But they can be the cornerstones of a decent playoff squad. It takes a hell of a lot to win a championship as well as some luck breaking your way. I dont see either of these guys as capable of being the guy on a championship team.

2. Are you still high on Nicolas Batum's career? Or does it turn out he was overrated?
"The Next Scottie Pippen", remember? I remember....

He was overrated. Decent wing player with some potential for further growth. But not anything like a do it all SF like pippen.

3. TRUE or FALSE: The Trail Blazers had an excellent offseason.

True. They had a really weak bench and were starting Hickson at the 5. They improved at almost every position on the bench.

4. How high are you on Leonard Meyers' potential? Pretty fly for a white guy, eh?
It's Leonard Meyers. Read ISH 5 Q: 76ers Edition. Read Meyers' back story too. Fascinating.

Kinda high. I like him and think he will be solid. But not a star or anything.

5. TRUE or FALSE: The Portland Trailblazers will make the playoffs this season.

tough one. Lets see. OKC, Spurs, griz, clipps, warriors, rockets all make it IMO. That leaves two spots for Den, portland, dallas, minny, lakers, NoLA.

I think it comes down to Den, portland and dallas for those two spots.

Btw, it was a tiny fraction of people who claimed that, most thought it was laughable the first time it was mentioned. I don't think that was ever his potential, so he can still meet his potential (although I don't think he will due to inconsistencies as I mentioned before).

1. Can LaMarcus Aldridge and Damian Lillard be the centerpieces of a championship team?
-Yes. But they still need Batum to step it up or add another all-star caliber player.

2. Are you still high on Nicolas Batum's career? Or does it turn out he was overrated?
-I was never high on his career. He has always been overrated by Blazer fans. He is a good player, but inconsistent and lacks a killer instinct.

3. TRUE or FALSE: The Trail Blazers had an excellent offseason.
-False. They had a good offseason. Lopez, Williams, Robinson, McCollum.

4. How high are you on Leonard Meyers' potential?
-Big, athletic body, can shoot the ball, cant play a lick of defense. Still very young. Hope to see him really improve this year. He has potential to be slightly better than Asik. IMO

5. TRUE or FALSE: The Portland Trailblazers will make the playoffs this season.
-True. They have a solid starting 5, and great depth.
