Default Brooklyn Nets payroll this season

$184,000,000

Thatís what theyíve earmarked for salaries plus luxury tax this season ó $101 million in payroll, $83 million in penalties ó and that latter figure is more than double the total tax burden paid by the 30 teams in 2011-12. Behold, the marriage of NBA and oligarchy. Itís not the new paradigm, but it is the final twist to David Sternís bizarre lust for strange bedfellows.

i wouldn't call it a bizarre lust for strange bedfellows. sounds like the writer's ego just turning a pet phrase there.

stern has been pretty clear for a long time about global expansion, and this ties in pretty directly, i reckon. is also makes all the other owners richer, and it also advances growth, which is a cornerstone of healthy capitalism.

Looks huge, but hey I am not the owner so I dont care how much hes paying the team. Instead, I am happy so long as hes willing to spend money on signing better players.
