If I were to stick to English language songs from the 20th century and I had to pick one I'd say it would have to be Bob Dylan's Like a Rolling Stone. When referring to greatness it's usually how impactful that song was to society and other music at the time. I remember not liking it the first time I heard it when I was really young. Eventually it became one of my all time favorites as well.

Dylan is completely overrated and his music does not transcend the time in which it was made. His shit is stuck in the 60's.

This.

Come Together (Beattles) is the best pop song though.

Mainstream Pop(ALL-TIME), it's probably something like this.

Yesterday
Hotel California
Good Vibrations
(Somewhere) Over the Rainbow
5th Symphony

Stairway is great, even though the melody was ripped off from a bad Zeppelin toured with named Spirit, and the song(if you're interested) is named Taurus. It was recorded around 4 years before Stairway To Heaven.

If I had any input on what pop-culture thought, then I would maybe add Enjoy the Silence, Parents(Budgie), and Space Oddity.

WTF

Nice song but completely out of this thread's scope.

Seriously though, White Christmas, like I said before, is the answer.
It is the song that most people in the world all-time have bought. Fact.

Wrecking Ball by Miley Cyrus deserves serious consideration. It's right up there with Stairway to Heaven.

Check out this interactive version of "Like a Rolling Stone".

http://video.bobdylan.com/desktop.html

Try changing channels during the song. You can also hit stop when on a channel you like, then click replay to listen to the entire song on that channel.

One of the coolest things I've come across on the internet lately.

Anyhow, this song is definitely up there.

 Utterly foolish opinion.

His voice was never a good singing voice by technical standards but the lyrics are still timeless poetry.

How can you say a song like, "Times Are a Changin" is stuck in the '60s when u can apply it to every single decade/ generation that has come after?

Sounds like u just want to be 'that guy'

I think Dylan has had more songs covered than anyone else ever. Must be some reason for that.

If anything, you should have mentioned Pink Floyd.
