This isn't NBA 2K, dude. It's not plug-and-play; lineups and matchups matter. He's the best they have for the role they need.

I'm saying he's the only one available.
Best would mean there are other players to choose from and he came out on top. He's literally what they have available.

They have Bam. He should get most of the minutes at the 5

I understand your point. Semantics, though. They're using Draymond and KD as interior support for Bam, who's only 6-9. They'd be better off having an actual 7 footer in McGee out there, in my opinion.

At the expense of matchups and lineups? I disagree. McGee's skillset is incredibly valuable in FIBA style play. They got brutalized in the paint against France.
France just outplayed Team USA. They had more points in the paint, more rebounds, more second chance points. They held USA to just 15 of 37 inside the arc – credit to Gobert and company

That's what happens when you play a small lineup against three 7ft+ guys.
Imagine what Spain might do? The Gasol brothers... damn.

I get the actual 7 footer thing but your 7 footer is McGee. Which is a moot point lol.
But hey if you think Javele McGee is the savior of USA Basketball then so be it.

They don't need him to be anything more than an effective role-player. France had Vincent Poirier playing -- a guy who played a total of 39 minutes for Philly last season. He was super effective in the minutes he was on the court.
That's all they need: a guy who can bring legitimate size, length, rebounding, and defense -- for 10 minutes. Someone who'll provide an actual physical matchup to guys like Gobert, and the Gasol brothers.

Re: France @ USA 7/25/21
It depends on the team sent to the Olympics.
In 92 and 96 with their best rosters, USA was winning by 20-30 points in the hardest matches.
2000, sent over an average roster. Almost lost a few matches.
2008/2012, nice teams that cruised and played one competitive match.
2016 - closer.
2020 - terrible roster. Same trap as last time. Send over the best talent. It is what kept the wide margin.
The world is just catching up. Reality. They have been since 96. Was always bound to happen. League is better for it. Talent at an all time high.

Much more impactful when he can camp the lane all game and doesn't have to worry about mosquito bite fouls
