Default Lakers lead for 69% of the series against the Nuggets

This is the highest percentage over the last 25 years for a team that lost a best of 7 series.

Jamal Murray was also the first player since play-by-play stats started being recorded in 1997 to hit two game winning shots with less than 5 seconds in the game in one series.

These are insane stats and just goes to show that the Nuggets really TOOK this series away from the Lakers. They were not only very clutch as a whole team, but Murray himself completely defied the odds/statistics of winning those games with his huge clutch baskets in the last two minutes and even seconds. Series easily could've been 3-2 Lakers, and I mean easily, but this is why sports are so damn good. The game is not decided until the clock is zero.

Yes... it was arguably the biggest choke job of all time. Nobody has ever led so much and gotten beaten so bad in the late game.

Like they said earlier, if games only had first halves they would have been in the second round rn after four games.

Lakers fans have to be the most deluded fanbase in sports. Murray was chucking like crazy, shot horribly but they still won in 5. Even if he missed one of those gamewinners the Nuggets could have easily won in OT.

Jokic was basically playing decoy for most of the games, trying to get Murray into his rhythm and the rest of the team going. He really only asserted himself in the 4th quarters so they could pull the lead back, and fortunately Murray was hot in the fourth quarters as well.

Seemed like Joker knew they could win the series like that and consciously avoided ball dominating. They have another gear they can go to if/when need be. I'm guessing we'll probably see it in the Sota series.

Agreed. Lakers' defense is trash. AD is an ELITE defender and LeBron, this season, has been pretty good. The rest have been atrocious. Rui can't rebound for shit, Ham is arguable a WOAT coach, Rui and D'lo are absolute trash on defense. There was ZERO chance of the Lakers beating the Nuggets.

As good as AD is, he needs a legit C to back him up. Lakers ****ed up by blowing up the whole team for players who do not play any defense.

Yeah the lack of rebounding outside of Bron & AD really did them in. The only reason Lakers had those leads was because Nuggets couldn't make 3s, but they still go so many 2nd chances that made up for their shooting woes.

Plus, there's no guarantee the Lakers keep it any more competitive even if they stole, say, Game 2. People act as if Denver couldn't, wouldn't, have bounced back had they lost, say, Game 2. Scares like that probably would've woken them up and forced them to make the necessary adjustments sooner, possibly resulting in winning the rest of the series even more convincingly.

Sure, most of the games were close-fought, but the Lakers were never realistically bound to win 4 games against the defending champs. If a team beats you in 4-5 games, they're typically a tier ahead of you regardless of the margin of victory. No one credits the 2022 Nets for their "close losses" to the Celtics, yet the Lakers have inspired moral-victory memes despite that they lost by bigger deficits against the Nuggets.

Game 2 was obviously the one they should've won, but Games 1 & 3 the Nuggets were up double digits virtually the entire 4th quarter, while last night was a back and forth game that the Nuggets simply had the ball last and won.

That's why the idea this was the "biggest choke ever" is impossibly stupid.

    Hmmm you have a point.

I don’t believe this has surpassed bron’s 2011 choke job

The Nuggets proved that you can play losing basketball for most of the game if you have a "closer" to win the 4th quarter and clutch-time for you... This was the 90's Bulls strategy and it shows how weak their cast was.. The current Nuggets must occasionally let Murray play the "jordan" role the rare occasions that Jokic is getting held down with 22 points and 7 TO's
