It's amazing how often a Charles Barkley defensive rebound led to a transition basket. He just hit the floor running.

He was obviously also GOAT tier on the offensive boards also.

Even If he was having an off scoring night, he could win games on the back of his rebounding alone.

Of everyone who's played at least 100 playoff games over the last 40 years (3 point era), Barkley has the highest career playoff rebounds per game. And it's not close.

    Here's the top 5...

    5. Wallace - 11.2
    4. Hakeem - 11.2
    3. Duncan - 11.4
    2. Shaq - 11.6

    1. Barkley - 12.9

He is #1 over this period in BOTH offensive AND defensive boards per game.

    Offensive...
    1. Barkley - 4.1
    2. Shaq - 4.0

    Defensive...
    1. Barkley - 8.7
    2. KG - 8.5

When you add the level of impact his boards had relative to other ATG rebounders... he was a 1 man fast break after a defensive board and a virtual guaranteed and-1 after and offensive board... Chuck has a VERY solid case for being greatest rebounder over the last 40 years.

Agreed. Rebounding now doesn't matter compared to back then because the league is soft and pussified. When you went up for a rebound back then, you were at higher injury risk. Imagine having to settle for watching this watered down version of the sport without the option of having seen it live when it was better.

It's a much more one dimensional game now.

Dominating the glass doesn't mean what it did in the past.

This is a big reason I put Chuck over the Mailman as GOAT power forward. Charles could not only rebound and score, he could handle the ball, bring it up the court, lead a fast break, and basically run the offense (moreso in Philly than in Phoenix and Houston, but still hella impressive).
