You actually have to be able to PLAY BASKETBALL TODAY vs the past
For the first time in NBA history you actually have to be able to PLAY BASKETBALL to make an NBA roster instead of JUST BEING TALL like in the past. You had guys from years ago who did nothing but get in the game and foul people and they got significant playing time. You had guys who were starters on good NBA teams who couldn't dribble or shoot.
Could Charles Oakley make an NBA team today? What about Bill Lambieer? Bill Cartwright? Dennis Rodman?
In todays game you actually have to be able to play and contribute or you wont make it in this league.

Bill Laimbeer had a nice jumper out to 3 point range, so he could definitely make it.
Cartwright not so much.

How many modern bigs have a skyhook? There's more to skills than three-point range.

Bill Laimbeer was semi-fat and could barely run. What barely is he most similar too today?

You could say the same thing about the current MVP. Athletic ability is valuable but strong fundamentals and skills still get the job done even if a guy has little athleticism.

Being less athletic and shooting 3s makes you like Jokic. Got it.
