Did Blake Griffin live up to the hype of his rookie season? Hall of Fame? 1st ballot?

Blake's rookie season was pretty crazy. 22.5 ppg, 12.1 rpg, 3.8 apg, and 2.7 topg on 57.4% selfORB Adjusted TS/+2.6 rTS. And that was back in 2010-11. Imagine what those numbers would look like in recent seasons. Closer to 25/12/5 most likely.

One of if not the best rookie season since Duncan. Sure, they were a bad team. But it wasn't because of him and he showed his quality on top-end teams shortly after.

I think his peak was 2013-14 for sure. Still had the explosiveness and motor but had become more skilled and experienced. Finished 3rd in the MVP. Put up 24.1 ppg, 9.5 rpg, 3.9 apg, and 2.8 topg on 60.1% selfORB Adjusted TS/+5.3 rTS. Led the team while CP3 was out injured. Showed out in the postseason too.

But was this good enough for you? Did you expect more after how emphatically he debuted? Do you think he's a first-ballot HOFer?

He was always very gifted offensively. I think defensively is where scrutiny needs to be applied. Do you have some defensive metrics for him during those years?

He was a very entertaining player though. I remember watching sports center while at the bar and Blake would be on the top 10 every single time. He had the t. rex arms but he had so much bounce for a guy his size…it was pretty insane.

What’s funny though is I think someone here posted a video about how in the last years of his career he only dunked twice all season or something? That shit was pretty unbelievable.

He succumbed to injury. I will remember him as a wet shooter who used to be a freak athlete. I almost feel like late Blake was more ready to win. I could see him contending.

After his rookie season I thought he would join the likes of Karl Malone, Charles Barkley, Tim Duncan, Kevin Garnett and Dirk Nowitzki in the conversation as the best PFs ever. And that he would win an MVP or two along the way. So no, he didn't live up MY expectations, at least.

About the Hall OF Fame I think he will get in, not 1st ballot though.

Shawn Kemp, similar career path. Didn't peek as high as Griffin, but had 6 all-star appearances, 3 all-nba, still not in.

The only thing that might get Griffin in on his first selection is had had a great sophomore year in college where he won various awards.

When I think of freak athletic PF's, the Mt. Rushmore could easily be Kemp, Amare, Blake, and Giannis. It's interesting that the 1st three were all FOR SURE on a HOF type trajectory. BUT injuries or other issues caught up to them when they should have been at the peak of their careers. And ironically all three of them were 6 Time All Stars.

But I could see Blake getting in one day especially when you throw in his college career. Plus he was also 5 time All NBA to go with the 6 All Star games. I'm not sure he's a first ballot guy though due to the longevity issues. But his college career could indeed get him into that 1st ballot realm. And at his best he was one of the league's most marketable stars. I think guys who are among the top 10 most MARKETABLE STARS in addition to being consistent all star-superstar level players should get points for that too. BECAUSE they are helping to grow the game worldwide. So that falls into the IMPACT type of lane when considering HOF type shit. Amare, Blake, and McDyess are from that Kemp tree too.

Peak wise, he's likely a top 12-15 level PF of all time. I'm not sure if he's top 10 PF ever peak wise cause you got Giannis, Timmy, KG, Barkley, Mailman, AD, Dirk, Hayes, McHale, and Bob P all in that mix. BUT after that, you get into C-Webb, Blake, Amare, K Love, and Kemp type guys. I think Amare gets in too and Kemp should have been in a lil while ago. Not saying Kemp should have been 1st ballot. BUT he redefined freak athletic ability at the PF position. For all intents and purposes, he brought that Nique type style, power, and hops combo to the PF position. You had guys like Nance, Chambers, and Barkley before him who were freak athletic. BUT Kemp took that shit to a whole other level.

Griffin is an all time great. I can't think of another example where an already top player actually became better after losing athleticism. For that alone hes a HOFr
