Will the NFL MVP dictate the NBA MVP?

The situations are basically identical.

Lamar Jackson is a multiple time MVP who's having his best season ever. A better season in pure statistical terms than Josh Allen. He's objectively the best player right now.

Josh Allen is the next closest guy this season, he's got great stats, led his team to a better record than Lamar, and he's been in the mix for MVP for a few years but never quite enough to win it. The thought is if you wanna give him some recognition for having been at a very high level for a while without winning it, this is the year to do it.


It's basically the exact Jokic-SGA situation. Substitute the names in to what I just wrote up above and it fits identically.

So the question is, will NBA voters follow suit BASED ON what the NFL voters do? Will they use that decision as a template for their own decision, in order to maintain some kind of cross-sport consistency? If NFL voters go Lamar, will NBA voters go Jokic? If they give it to Allen, will NBA voters go SGA?

Essentially, do you think we'll know who the NBA MVP is as soon as the NFL MVP is announced?

I don't necessarily agree because I don't think Lamar is truly the better quarterback than Allen in the same way that Jokic probably really is the better player than SGA right now. They are essentially even to me but of course in different ways.

The Ravens are wonderfully coached and amazing schematically on offense, and of course Lamar is a big part of that. But not the only part. I believe the Ravens wide receivers lead the league in separation on pure pass routes (excluding RPO and various gadget plays) while the Bills have struggled there this year.

They also do a great job of stopping the run which prevents opposing offenses from staying on the field for long stretches, an advantage for the raw offensive numbers of course. The Bills are poor in this area.

They are in vastly different situations so it's really impossible to compare like the NBA where they're playing both ends for 35 minutes game in and game out. There's just simply more data.
