Stephen A. Smith "I have no choice but consider running for President in 2028

AOC, Crocket and now Smith will be on the Democratic ballot

Smith says people asking him to run is an indictment of the Democratic Party.

"I have no choice, because I've had elected officials, and I'm not going to give their names, elected officials coming up to me. I've had folks who are pundits come up to me. I've had folks that got a lot of money, billionaires and others that have talked to me about exploratory committees and things of that nature. I'm not a politician. I've never had a desire to be a politician," Smith told ABC News' "This Week" co-anchor Jonathan Karl.

Smith reiterated that because of the number of people asking him to consider a run, he has to leave the door open.

Here's the reality: People, literally people, have walked up to me, including my own pastor, for crying out loud, who has said to me, 'You don't know what God has planned for you. At least show the respect to the people who believe in you, who respect you, who believe that you can make a difference in this country, to leave the door open for any possibilities some to three years down the line.' And that's what I've decided to do."

Smith made headlines earlier this week when he said he was leaving the door open to a run for president in 2028. The sports commentator and host of his own show -- "The Stephen A. Smith Show" -- has become a vocal critic of the Democratic Party in the wake of its sweeping losses in last November's elections, which resulted in the party being locked out of power in Washington during Trump's second term.

I'm taking this about as seriously as Kanye running. But that said, I do think the US needs to up it's requirements for running. I think you should have to have held some place in government before running. You had to have been a Mayor, or work in the Senate, or House member, just ANYTHING.
Because random celebs that have never been in politics and probably have a Jr. High level understanding of how the system works is a real threat. We are in an idiocracy. If Kanye was on the ballot? I can't say there is no way the American people wouldn't vote him in.

they can always inject a clown into the system. I do think a requirement would be nice, but it's hard to say that it couldn't just be faked. Like if they had to take some competency test or a test on AMERICAN GOVERNMENT, I bet most people would have the answers. The only thing that making them have to be a senator or whatever requires is more time investment.

It's funny that you are a Democrat, right, and you want to put safeguards against the people's choice. I agree, don't get me wrong, but I think true democracy is flawed. It's kinda amazing we have votes in President at all, and that it's just one aspect of our government is a good safeguard. We could live in a world where senators and house members are the electoral college...

Edit: and the indictment would be him winning a primary. He would get slaughtered in a race. They thought Trump was gonna be a trojan horse and look how that turned out. The only people who are happy about Stevie running are non-dems haha. I hope he does not run tho. I have never been a fan. I don't think he has IT factor. I think you have to be seen as somewhat of an alpha... or be a Bush... to even have a chance. That's why Kammy trashed out. Hillary at least seemed like she was in control most of the time. Stephen A is cooked if he runs. I dunno who I even want for pres after Trump tho. Seems like a whole world of clowns.

Gavin is gonna be the nominee, no?
Hes already changing his tune to appeal to a broader mass of people.

Gavin got trashed by Adam Carolla more than Kamala did by Tulsi. Couple that with a pretty blah ‘reign,’ and I think he has about as much chance as JB Pritzker.

I can only imagine why Gavin is doing what he is doing, but I think he has the political savvy to know he’s toast. I don’t even think arrogance could hide something so obvious.

 We shall see tho.

Actual track record doesnt mean much anymore. They can prop him up easily. He has the presidential look/charisma even if hes a fraud.

The Carolla thing is so far in the past, it wont be known to the average voter.

We should know by now not to try to predict who will be the next presidential nominees. I know he was a star on the rise, but nobody would've thought Obama would've had a realistic chance at being the nominee in 2005, and I don't even have to mention our current president
The most likely candidate will be Shapiro or Whitmer, both governors of crucial swing states. But I'm sure someone completely out of left field will potentially end up getting the nomination.

Right now it's pointless to throw out names. We will start to have a clear picture about 3 years from now.
