I have a BBQ going on where I'm only inviting my black friends. A few of them agreed to come. None of them even know what Juneteenth is. I'll probably casually bring it up in conversation while they're munching on some chicken wings, "You know...the only reason I get to enjoy this great food with you folks is because the Union declared victory over the Confederates over 150 years ago on this day in Galveston, Texas."

In this moment I suspect Nia who is the wife of my friend Jabari will say, "Not me, my family is from Nigeria." and I'll reply, "Well, I hope your great-grandfather didn't sell slaves like many Nigerians did back then."
