I get it that maybe they want to develop Clayton, Luis Jr., etc, and maybe they want to do good by Sexton by trading him somewhere he can get minutes, but somebody please explain why they included a 2nd round pick for a guy who is disgruntled, older, and makes slightly more money?
I mean, surely Kessler is still in the rotation ahead of Nurkic, right?

Kessler will start unless traded. Filiposki will probably get the backup minutes. Nurkic is an rxpiring contract. The 2nd rounder certainly nakes no sense. Im sure they have had better offers the past two years that dannt turned down. Not a fan of his son so far

I can’t explain the trade. I mean Sexton is in a contract year so this would be a rental if Hornets have no interest in giving him a long term deal.
This move opens up minutes. Ace is smiling.

If sexton costs a pick what do they have to give for someone to take The Bum?

Sexton is like a cheaper, younger, better defensive version of Rozier, and they will likely use Sexton in the same role that they used to play him in Charlotte.
The most crazy thing here is Sexton has something to play for in a contract year, vs Nurkic is done getting big contracts from here in out and is more likely to be a distraction if he's not getting minutes.
Bad trade for Utah.

I don't see how Nurkic gets more than the tax payer MLE from here on out. And I think that's the best case scenario given his attitude.
Sexton is still in the mix for an 8 figure yearly contract.

I completely don't understand the Sexton trade. He's probably one of the most underrated offensive players in the league and is a 50/40/80 threat every year and that's all you can get for him? He's consistently put up 18/3/4 on 48/40/84 splits the last three years on not even 30 minutes of playing time in each of those seasons. His best offensive season was in Cleveland at almost 25PPG just four years ago.

8.0 PPG and 2.6 assists on 30% shooting, including 25% from three against the Pacers though.
Also those postseason percentages are completely wrong from "Responsible Gaming". He didn't do 50/46.7 for the postseason. It was 40.2/38.9. He played really well up until the Pacers series.

Better offensive player now. Supposedly minnesota wanted him. Probably preferred the expiring contract over tcontracts they didnt want past this season
