The NBA is truly a joke league

The last 10 years have really destroyed the NBA.

1. Removing defense (can't touch offensive players at all, can't even do basic contests on jumpshots, very little interior defense since every offense goes 5 out)
2. Giving offensive players every advantage possible (can travel/carry whenever and bait the refs into 15+ free throws)
3. Going full steam ahead with legal gambling and we've got players/coaches getting arrested/banned from the league
4. Front offices/owners going around the salary cap rules to pay players on the side

The NBA has always had some problems, but it's just so far out of control now. I can't even compare what's happening now to just 10 years ago. It's a different sport/league entirely.

Easily the least serious professional league, which is a shame for real basketball fans.

There are things I love and things I don't love about the current product.

What I love is that it's not all about one player anymore, it's about depth. Back then if your star player was out it was a huge handicap and it blew up your whole gameplan, but now it's just plug and play and the next guy steps up.

There is also way more randomness now because of the shooting. It becomes less about team execution and more about who's making. That means less predictability and more teams being in the hunt. For a long time one of the biggest marks against the league was that it was too top heavy and predictable. You can't say that anymore. We're in a parity era now, and in many ways that's good for the product. On the flipside it's easy to see why some interpret that as a bad thing.

If they got rid of defensive 3 seconds and stopped calling the bullshit touch fouls, and stopped rewarding the foul baiting and all the trickery, I think I could live with the current product. I would still rather they reduce the number of games and number of playoff teams, but that's a different subject.

Playoffs still kind of resemble the good ol days in terms of officiating and letting the defense have a chance, but the regular season is wild.

FIBA olympics was a breath of fresh air. Embid couldnt do his flopping bullshit, it was mostly about pure basketball. SGA averages 7 FTA in FIBA.

Im not sure what happened over the off season. The second half of the season last year during the regular season one of the big headlines was how officials were letting them play a lot more. Now it's a complete shift to not only the way it was before but even worse.

WTF you talking about? Stern had a ton of scandals, riggings, rule changes, and dictatorial bullshit under his watch. He’s the one who put this all in motion.

Sac vs LA was under Stern

Flopping in general all started under Stern. And getting rid of hand checking.

Horry checking Nash then Amare / Diaw getting suspended under Stern.

I tend to view this differently.

You can go wrong with too few whistles or too many.

The real problem IMO is inconsistency.

You have offensive players acting like running backs with their physicality who then get fingernail calls called in their favor.

Or you have certain defenders where it seems like the refs are actually afraid to blow the whistle- and they let them get away with a lot more.

You have biased refs who fanboy certain players and blow the whistle every time.

You don't know what to expect- but you can expect a lack of fairness due to inconsistency.

You can begin to deal with this by re-establishing a single standard of officiating across All Refs. And punish refs who demonstrate bias.

I don't even consider the NBA since 2021 to have any relevance to previous eras.

The NBA is now 90% entertainment/money-grab and 10% basketball. The playoffs are still watchable, but I legit don't see any significance to regular season performance, awards, etc.

We've got the best players in the world with an easier rule-book than high school players...

The NBA could save itself if they simply turned back the clock and put back the on the court rules from 2006.
