First of all, it was the overwhelming hype, based mostly on the minutes played against the US squad in the '08 Olympics. The kid did well, but people were promoting him like the second coming of Maravich, and such nonsense. There was also a strong "great white hope" quality to the whole thing, which I found offensive.

Then, there was the "will I, won't I" situation with him coming over to play for the TWolves. In my mind, he didn't have the game, or potential game, to jerk people around the way that he was. This is the main problem I had with him, because it wasn't someone else hyping him up, it was the player himself screwing around with indecision.

So, he's certainly given people reasons to dislike him because of all the hype, and the prevailing opinion that he simply isn't that good. If he had the potential to come over and light the league up, all of this would be viewed differently.

I think he's not going to be able to keep up defensively, despite more hype about his supposed steals skills. He could turn up to be the worse defensive guard since Nash. We'll see.

    Reasons some do it:

    1. the player isn't their same race/culture/socioeconomic class.
    2. the player is either too loud or too softspoken.
    3. the player plays for a rival squad.
    4. the player is actually an @sshole (Garnett)
    5. the player made "the decision"

I think because of all the hype he will get an opportunity to start, but end up as the back up to Luke Ridnour. Rubio 5-7ppg 3-6 apg 40% or less shooting from the field.

Rubio is really a Spanish Rondo. He gets most of his praise for passing, but he's also an incredible rebounder for a guard and gets lots of steals.

You can compare their advanced stats here http://www.in-the-game.org/?page_id=9936 and here http://www.basketball-reference.com/...rondora01.html

If anyone doesn't speculate on the number of rebounds that Rubio will get, it means that they don't know anything about him at all, because rebounding is part of his game.

The Ricky Rubio era begins in the Twin Cities. I am not sure about the rest of my Timberwolves fans, but I am looking forward to watching Ricky direct the Timberwolves team this season. Sure we will have some growing pains, but I can deal with that. Let's get it started!!!!

Rondo? Anyways by the look of things Ricky Rubio will have a pretty sweet jump shot this year. (At least he is working on it) But I bet you the majority of his scoring comes from penetration like Rondo since shooting is not his strong point. That isnt bad either. Having a quick PG that scored off penetration will require help defense and let Rubio outlet the ball for some wide open looks.
