Highest points scored against the best defenders in league history?
They have to be in their primes for it to count so lets not put Lakers Payton or Wizards Jordan etc. getting torched.

38 year old Kareem dropping 46 points against a young Olajuwon was the highest he gave up which is insane given the guys he matched up against in his prime (Shaq, Drob, Ewing etc.)

Re: Highest points scored against the best defenders in league history?
I think Nate Thurmond held a lot of people to weirdly low highs against him. Most of the all-time defenders are more team defenders though. The man-to-man shut down guys don’t tend to be the big stars everybody calls attention to.
Most everyone gets lit up eventually though. Only so much you can do vs god tier shot making.
The only way to avoid anyone ever going off on you is to change assignments while it’s going on or take the less dangerous guys and focus on team defense.
And these days with all the switching? I’m not sure anyone gets lit up other than the guys targeted for the switches.

And a lot of it is just two people on the court at the same time. Nique gave some of this 57 to MJ but not much of it
And Jordan gave 50+ to various bad boy pistons but not all to any one of them.
Hard to say what qualifies.

Not against the best defender in league history. But ben simmons, who's often scared to score, dropped 42 on he-who-must-not-be-named bt.

If you are the primary defender and your man goes off for a ton of points you will get the blame which I know is unfair regardless of how many of those points was scored in your face.

Mike past his prime in 1997 gave prime / peak GP 45 on national television. A reminder that it had nothing to do stop GP in his post game 3 struggles in the 1996 Finals.
