Absolutely crazy. The RS saw an explosion of interest with the Luka trade then the Knicks having a good run and now it's just completely flamed out into nothing.

Both are star players. Did you mean superstars? That’s a big difference and has everything to do with casual fans who don’t even follow the sport much to tune in. Normally superstar vs superstar finals draw more interest.

The league will probably need a young, leading guy who can make it to the finals prominently for them to draw a huge interest from fans en route to being the next face of the league. If they win there a few times or more, the better. Being talented alone wouldn't cut it nowadays.

It's not just this forum though.

June 10 - A Game 2 blowout in the NBA Finals on Sunday drew an average of 8.76 million viewers, the lowest for a Game 2 in the finals in 18 years - excluding 2020 during the COVID-19 global pandemic.

Truth is Indiana isn't a strong Finals team. OKC is top tier, but the NBA has done a poor job promoting SGA. Also hurts that these are two small markets in the Finals.

The matchup is a killer for the league for sure, but all these days off between games just completely destroys the momentum of the series. There's no justifiable reason to have 3 days between every game. So obviously when you combine a matchup most fans don't care about with games hardly being played, of course people are going to lose interest. I bet most fans have almost forgotten this series is even taking place, there's no hype about it and we're hardly even seeing any basketball being played.

MLB is officially getting viewed more than NBA now in the World Series vs Finals compared to last Fall and this Spring. If the NBA can't figure out how to gain viewership they'll be the 4th most watched sport during the finale of the playoffs behind the NFL, MLB and NHL.
