diamenz call this situation. it's not just israel and iran...it's a proxy war now. chinese and russian supplies aiding iran with pakistan threatning the US to stay out of it or they will jump in on behalf of Iran. with Israel, they have US, UK and Jordan support. China is just suppliying right now but they do buy most of Iran's oil so they have a significant dependency and interest in Iran.

i haven't been following but like you said it goes without saying the longer this goes on and evolves the more potential it has to escalate. we're not just bullying the empty entity that's gaza anymore - iran is interwined with a chunk of other country's affairs and they'll only put up with so much for so long, especially in regard to oil & gas. trump won't cut them off - he's already bought by the lobby.

and don't forget that pakistan is also a nuclear power (one that refuses to join the global nuclear nonproliferation treaty) and is arguably more unstable than iran would be but we never hear about that because they're not a threat to israel.
