If you aren't buying shoes almost exclusively for physical comfort, you are a dumbass or very young.

You're too worried about your perceived status from others, you aren't a confident person and you aren't pragmatic whatsoever.
if the sneaker industry had to survive off early 20s and younger, it would’ve gone out of business long ago. And it feels like you aren’t considering the existence of women at all. They’re half the population and more than that when it comes to people who care a tremendous amount about individual articles of clothing.

you might as well be asking who cares about shirts…or suit jackets. The answer is always gonna be millions of people. I don’t know what you get out of pretending you don’t know they exist.

Plenty of millionaires walking around with extensive shoe collections.

It’s no more or less valid than collecting anything else. So much of life ****ing sucks. I think I’ve grown out of criticizing people for hobbies that don’t happen to be mine.

Jordan’s are not shoes to wear with shorts.

    So Cal is shorts culture.

My experience living in Southern California is that fools don’t wear Jordans.

They rock Chuck T’s, Nike Cortez, and Vans.

    Jordan’s? Not all that.

Ok re: women fair enough but give some context to the situation. We're talking about Jordans/basketball shoes for style and obviously the major consumers of those are men.

Jordans themselves are probably being purchased by 90% men but I don't have the data for that. Nikes themselves are already 2/3rds men and if you branch off into Jordans specifically I have to believe it's substantially higher.

That being said, you want to compare male shoeheads to women? Go right ahead. It's a fair comparison.

Most women are far more interested in perceived social status than anything else and that echoes what I said about people in general being worried about shoes.

I Having Jordans makes you a sneaker head. Especially when it comes to women. A great number of women I’ve known in life would get sneakers they thought looked cute.

I happened to be in Vegas when Aja Wilson shoe first came out and they were booming.

She plays there, but I see them a couple thousand miles away where I live and I don’t think most of those people care about the WNBA. It’s just a cute article of clothing for most women in my experience.

My girlfriend has Jordans and I swear I’m not 100% sure she would know Michael Jordan if he were at the door. She would know he’s somebody she’s seen before, but I don’t know that she would know who it is.

She goes through life, somehow not recognizing some of the most famous people you can imagine.

The release schedule is kind of stupid too, like they released the Purple "Fresh Prince" 5s like a few weeks before the Fire Red 5s and now they just released like a white/black/pink variant of the 5s too.

This year had both the Flu Game 12s (black/red), but also the French Blue/white 12s (that Kobe wore) and in a month they're releasing the OG Taxi 12s (white/black/gold) ...

Even if you like the Jordan 5s or 12s ... I mean who can afford to buy like 2-3 versions of the same shoe, of course some of them are going to sit.

Same thing with the Jordan 8s, this year has the Aqua 8s but also the white/gray/red Bugs Bunny 8s. You're just splitting the audience for that shoe.

And then there's like 10 versions of the Air Jordan XI coming this fall, but none in any of the OG colorways and most of them in weird colorways like black and neon green with no patent leather (wtf).

People also know there's no point in buying a lot of these shoes day 1 ... you can find them at Foot Locker or the Nike Outlet for 25%-40% off if you wait a few weeks on a lot of models, that doesn't just go for Jordan retros, pretty much any shoe model. Luka's sneakers are easy to get heavily discounted, Zions, Tatums, LeBrons, Morants ... all this stuff you can just wait and get them discounted. The stuff that sells out instantly or very rapidly are things like the Jordan X Steel, which Nike made in extremely low quantities, and things like the Flu Game 12s and Cool Grey 9s sold out, though not instantly.

I'd much rather wear a nice colorway of Jordan 1 Lows than fugly Vans or Chuck Taylors. Chuck Taylors had their time as the iconic retro shoe but they're terrible quality, I think the Jordan 1 has replaced them as the iconic retro shoe of today.

Nobody even wore Jordan 1s in the 90s and 00s & they look too similar to AF1 which came out before Jordan 1. They re-released in the mid 90's and didn't sell out, nobody really cared for them. The popularity of Jordan 1s came back in the 2010's.

Chuck Taylors came out over 100 years ago and people still wear them today, they are more iconic. In middle school around 2004/2005 me and my friends all wore chucks and were known as the "chuck crew".

I would say Air Force 1 is the most iconic shoe today. People have consistently worn them for over 40 years.

Chuck Taylor had their time? It’s a timeless sneaker that’s still worn today. lol They are worn more than the Jordan 1’s today. And forever will be. Not sure what made you say you think Jordan 1’s replaced them as the iconic retro.

Because the 80s became the new retro cool ... the 1950s like really who gives a crap at this point. A nice clean pair of Air Jordan 1 Lows is way nicer than Chuck Taylors, same with a lot of the retro low cut adidas staples. Chuck Taylors were "retro" in like the 90s/2000s ... at some point you go from "retro" to just plain old. They're a terrible shoe too, awful foot support.

But the numbers don't lie either, overall Jordan Brand sales have exploded in the last 5 years even ... from $3.6 mill-ish in revenue in 2020 up to $7.3 billion in 2025. Obviously Nike is going to see that and start producing more Jordan sneakers, that oversaturates the market so you don't see things like instant sell-outs like before and then sneaker head Youtubers think there's a problem.

There's no problem, Nike is just making more Jordan models/retros and shipping them in higher quantities because the sales have doubled for Jordan as a brand while the rest of Nike has declined in that time.

Any business is going to throw more behind any segment that has doubled in revenue in only 5 years though. That's monstrous growth overall even if one quarter or one snippet of a year is down from the previous year. Obviously at some point the growth had to slow though, the number of people that can keep dropping $200+ for retro basketball sneakers in some new weird colorway has a ceiling.

I think Nike is very, very happy with $7 billion+ in Jordan revenue though. Who really cares either if a shoe "sits" ... like being able to walk into a mall and just buy a pair of shoes you want is how it's *supposed* to work, lol. It's not supposed to work like no one buy hoarders/collectors snap up shoes for an instant sell out and then charge a 50-300% upcharge on GOAT or Stock X. That's insane.

Really depends, lots of Jordan 1 lows come with 3 different colors which kill the shoe to me. If it's just two different simple colors that go together on the low 1s, then I would agree. But Chuck Taylors have stood the test of time for 100+ years and are still worn today. Jordan 1s have only been super popular for 15 years or so.

Retro low top 1s also suck. There should be no Jumpman on a low top 1.
