Question Who is the Baja Blast of the NBA?

They just released a Baja Blast pie. That's crazy.

Baja Blast is a tropical lime-flavored soft drink under the Mountain Dew brand, known for its distinctive turquoise color and unique origin story.

First introduced in 2004 as an exclusive offering at Taco Bell restaurants, the flavor was specifically formulated to pair with the chain's food. It quickly developed a fervent cult following, leading to annual limited-time releases in retail stores starting in 2014. Driven by consumer demand, the "Bajaversary" celebration in 2024 marked its transition to a permanent fixture in the Mountain Dew retail lineup.

Baja Blast's legacy is defined by its ability to transcend its origins, growing into a standalone sub-brand with numerous flavor variations and spin-off products across different categories, including energy drinks, hard sodas, and even food items like Taco Bell's Baja Blast Gelato.

Idk but Baja Blast Freeze is knocking on the door of GOAT sodas.

Cherry Coke and Baja Blast sharing the 1a/1b ranking. Only catch is I don’t think I’ve ever had a normal Baja Blast.

I would say the NBA equivalent is Shaquille O’Neal.

Maybe Hondo. It was elite in the team setting for so long but Not as a franchise player. After many years, it was given franchise player status and released on its own To become a legendary outside the Taco Bell Dynasty. James worthy fell apart as soon as he was given full retail release.

A lesser known candidate for Baja blast status? Jimmy Jones chips. Jimmy John’s might have the best barbecue chips on the market, but nobody knows it. It’s legendary within it’s niche.

It never gets on its own team the world would know. It won’t be a James worthy.

Lesser known BBQ chip trivia :

Zach Randolph ate a bag of BBQ chips at halftime, for most of his career.

Baja Blast came out in 2004 and was only known through Taco Bell for a long while. If there was a current player where most people didn't know about him until recently it would be Josh Giddey. He was a solid NBA player his first three and a half seasons and up until the middle of last season no one really knew of him except for those underage sex allegations he had. Now since the middle of last season up until now he's playing at an all-star level almost averaging a triple double. This year is his 5th season in the league and he' just turned 23 years old.

Baja Blast was a hit from day one. It was a sensation! Starbucks had The Pumpkin Spice Latte (2003); Taco Bell had The Baja Blast (2004).

    Think Outside the Bun!™

2004 was a year of significant progress for Taco Bell®. We delivered positive same store sales growth in every period — with over three consecutive years of sustained growth. Throughout the year we continued to set weekly sales records systemwide, fueled by innovative marketing and a commitment to Running Great Restaurants. We’re proud of the fact that our One System Operating Platform helped our Restaurant General Managers and their teams drive more consistent execution and greater Customer Mania. As a result, our Speed with Service improved, with QSR Magazine rating us third in the overall drive-thru experience in their 2004 Drive-Thru Survey. We also continued to deepen our people-first, recognition culture as seen by
the fact that our team member turnover was down from 221% in 2001 to just 108% in 2004.

And then there’s our food! Already delighting customers with our existing lineup of Mexican-inspired products, like our delicious Grilled Stuft Burritos, signature Quesadillas and Fiesta Taco Salad™ — in 2004 we invited consumers to Think Outside The Bun™ with our new Big Bell Value Menu™. Priced at just 99¢ – $1.29, customers can keep their stomachs and wallets full with items like our 1/2 lb Beef & Potato Burrito, Spicy Chicken Soft Taco, and Caramel Apple Empanada.

We also had customers Drinking Outside the Bun with the introduction of Mountain Dew Baja Blast™, our new carbonated soft drink that combines the flavor and energy of Mountain Dew with a bold tropical lime blast, available only at participating Taco Bell restaurants. Another industry first was Taco Bell becoming the “Official Quick Service Restaurant” of Major League Baseball® (MLB).* Our exciting three-year partnership includes advertising, on-site signage and fan promotions during MLB™ events.

So in 2005, we’re going to build on our success and continue to: put our People first so they can be great Customer Maniacs; get better and better at Execution; and deliver that “Taco Bell taste” and spirit that keep our customers coming back for more!
