The NBA yesterday fined Detroit Pistons forward Blake Griffin $15,000 for verbal abuse of a game official, the league announced.
The incident occurred at the end of Detroit's 100-94 loss to the Jazz on Monday, January 14 at Vivint Smart Home Arena.
It's been a tough season for the Pistons. The team is just 19-24, which is the 9th best record in the Eastern conference. Griffin is putting up an impressive 25.5 points, 8.1 rebounds and 5.2 assists per game, and Andre Drummond is averaging 16.7 points, 15.1 rebounds, 1.6 steals and 1.7 blocks, but contributions from the rest of the team are fairly limited. Of the next five leading scorers on the team -- Reggie Jackson, Reggie Bullock, Ish Smith, Langston Galloway and Stanley Johnson -- all are shooting below 42%, and three are shooting below 40%. The team's defense is average, but their offense is towards the bottom of the league.
On Friday, the team hosts the 21-21 Miami Heat.
