Cavs sign Cameron Payne to second 10-day dealThe Cavaliers today decided to keep guard Cameron Payne around, at least for another 10 days.

The team signed Payne to a second 10-day contract today, according to General Manager Koby Altman.

Payne, listed at 6-foot-3, 190 pounds, played in four games for the team on his first 10-day contract, signed January 6. In that stretch he averaged 8.8 points and 2.8 assists on 50% shooting in just 17.7 minutes per game. Those are bigger numbers than usual for someone signed to a 10-day deal.

Before his time with the Cavs, Payne this season played in 31 games (12 starts) for the Bulls, averaging 5.7 points and 2.7 assists in 17.3 minutes per outing.

We will not be surprised if the Cavs soon give Payne a rest-of-season contract.

At 9-35, the Cavs have the worst record in the Eastern conference through yesterday's games. They've played most of the season without star forward Kevin Love, but the bigger picture is that the franchise clearly must now rebuild and focus on the future more than the present.
