Heat backup Derrick Jones Jr out six weeksThe Miami Heat will be without backup small forward Derrick Jones Jr. for the next six weeks.

The team today announced that Jones Jr. has two bone bruises in his right knee. There is no need for surgery, of course. But the bruises are serious enough to keep Jones Jr. out for an extended period. After six weeks, he'll be re-evaluated.

The injury took place in the second quarter of yesterday's game against the Knicks. Miami won, 106-97.

Jones Jr. has mostly come off the bench this season, playing as a reserve in 32 of the 37 games he's played in. Averaging 7.4 points in 18.1 minutes per game, he's been hitting his shots: 51.0% FG and 36.5% from three-point range. He's shooting 51.1% FG over the course of his three-year NBA career so far.

The Heat are 24-24 this season, which through yesterday's games places them as the 7th seed in the Eastern conference. The team is off today and tomorrow. On Wednesday they host the Chicago Bulls.
