Dikembe Mutombo Post-Game Interview
Media Conference After Game 3
INSIDEHOOPS.COM - New Jersey Nets center Dikembe
Mutombo, otherwise known as "The Cookie Monster," was interviewed after the team's
NBA finals game 3 loss to the San Antonio Spurs.
Question: What went wrong tonight?
Dikembe Mutombo: I don’t think anything went wrong. Both teams played great
defense. We just didn’t make our shots. We just didn’t finish some of the opportunities
that we got tonight.
Question: How does this team create more offense if you can’t get it going on the break?
Dikembe Mutombo: I think it is something that we have to look at. We’ll
talk about it after the game. The adjustment will be there quick. I think we have
to go a little bit big and throw more body on them and make them see what they
are going to come up with on the outside. We were small a little bit when they
went zone on us and then our shooters were having a hard time shooting against
their bigs, so we should have went big as well.
Question: They raised their intensity and you knew they were going to come back strong.
Dikembe Mutombo: I think the only intensity I saw there was they stayed
on our shooter. They didn’t give us the chance to get an easy basket out there
down the stretch. Every time one of our shooters had the ball they were all up
in his face. So we’re going to try to go inside more and that can open up more
outside.
Question: Game 4 is a must-game now.
Dikembe Mutombo: Yeah, the fourth game is going to be a must win. There’s
nothing we can look at right now. The only thing we have to do, we have to come
and jump on them from the beginning, be very aggressive and try to win the game.
