Raptors sign Chris Duhon to offer sheet
Raptors News | Aug. 9, 2005
The Toronto Raptors announced Tuesday they have signed restricted free-agent guard Chris Duhon to an offer sheet. Per team policy, contract terms were not disclosed. Under the rules of the new collective bargaining agreement, Chicago has seven days to match the Raptors’ offer.
InsideHoops.com hears that the offer sheet is for around $3 million a season, for three seasons. That's just a rumor and isn't confirmed.
If the Bulls do match the offer, Duhon officially remains a member of the Bulls for that contract.
During the 2004-05 season, Duhon averaged 5.9 points, 4.9 assists, 1.00 steals and 26.5 minutes, playing in all 82 games as a rookie for the Bulls, while starting 73 contests. He set a franchise record by making eight three-pointers April 18 at Atlanta and ranked seventh in the league with a 3.34 assist-to-turnover ratio.
“Chris, along with Rafer Alston and Jose Calderon, would give us flexibility in the guard positions.” said Raptors General Manager Rob Babcock. “Chris was the starting point guard for a playoff team in Chicago and won a national championship with Duke. At just 23 years of age, he offers a lot of potential.”
Duhon was selected with the 38th pick by Chicago in the 2004 NBA Draft. He averaged 8.8 points, 3.4 rebounds, 5.7 assists, 2.08 steals and 33.4 minutes in 144 games during four years at Duke University. He is the only player in the history of the ACC to accumulate at least 1,000 points, 800 assists, 475 rebounds, 300 steals and 125 three-pointers. He finished first in school history in minutes played (4,813) and steals (300) and second in assists (819). As a freshman, Duhon played a key role on Duke’s 2001 National Championship team. He helped the Blue Devils to two Final Four appearances and three ACC Championships during his four collegiate years.
