ESPN NBA Draft Picks

High school phenom LeBron James is the consensus #1 pick in the upcoming NBA Draft to be televised on ESPN Thursday, June 26 at 7 p.m. ET. The picks following the Cleveland Cavaliers' first selection are not so clear. ESPN draft analysts Greg Anthony and Jay Bilas have made their draft day predictions for ESPN's 2003 Mock Lottery Draft.

-ESPN LOTTERY PICKS-

CLEVELAND CAVALIERS:

The Consensus Pick - LeBron James, SG HT: 6-8 WT: 240 Akron, Ohio (High School)

"James is a potential star that has the best upside of anyone in the draft. He is already a man physically, a Magic Johnson-type passer, and he has the intangibles that draw interest. He needs to improve his jump shooting, but shoots a good ball with ease." -Bilas

DETROIT PISTONS:

The Pick - Darko Milicic, PF HT: 7-0 WT: 245 Serbia

"Think Dirk Nowitzki with a mean streak and the ability to play with his back to the basket. The only concern is how long it will take to make an impact. He is only 17 years old." -Anthony

DENVER NUGGETS:

The Pick - Carmelo Anthony, SF HT: 6-8 WT: 220 Syracuse

"Anthony is a great low post scorer and an outstanding rebounder. He is not overly quick or athletic, but knows how to play. If he can guard the 3, he can be a complete player in the NBA, and he will play his tail off for you right away." -Bilas

TORONTO RAPTORS:

The Pick - Chris Bosh (Bilas), PF HT: 6-10 WT: 210 Georgia Tech

The Pick - T.J. Ford (Anthony), PG HT: 6-0 WT: 162 Texas "Bosh isn't ready to be a star now, but you have to wait on a number of these guys. No big man outside of Milicic has more upside than Bosh. He is a lefty that can run, step out and shoot, and block shots." -Bilas

"Ford is lightning quick. He is the pure point guard that everybody loves, but nobody knows if he will ever shoot consistently from the perimeter. He needs to shoot better to utilize his quickness, but his upside is hard to pass." -Anthony

MIAMI HEAT:

The Pick - T.J. Ford (Bilas), PG HT: 6-0 WT: 162 Texas

The Pick - Pavel Podkolzine (Anthony), C HT: 7-5 WT: 305 Serbia

"Ford is a jet with the ball and is at his best in the open court. T.J. is tough minded, a great passer and a good leader. He is, however, a small guard and a suspect perimeter shooter." -Bilas

"The only obstacle will be working out a buyout of Pavel's current contract. He might be a stretch this high in the draft, but it is hard to teach size. He's an athletic big guy with a lot of potential." -Anthony

LOS ANGELES CLIPPERS:

The Pick - Pavel Podkolzine (Bilas), C HT: 7-5 WT: 305 Serbia

The Pick - Chris Bosh (Anthony), PF HT: 6-10 WT: 210 Georgia Tech

"A 7-5 Siberian conjures images of a stiff, but Podkolzine can run north and south, has great feet for his size, and can catch. He is capable of hitting from 15 feet, but it is unknown whether he can play with his back to the basket." -Bilas

"The Clippers need to do something smart and pick Bosh. He has NBA shot blocking ability, but needs to add strength to avoid being manhandled. He is much like Loren Woods of Minnesota. It will be interesting because the Candyman is gone." - Anthony

CHICAGO BULLS:

The Pick - Dwayne Wade, SG HT: 6-4¾ WT: 212 Marquette

"If the Bulls decide to trade Jay Williams, Wade is their guy. He is a smart, silky smooth scorer who will have to show improvement on the defensive end. He would be a nice piece to go along with Jamal Crawford in the triangle offense." -Anthony

MILWAUKEE BUCKS:

The Pick - Kirk Hinrich, PG HT: 6-3¾ WT: 186 Kansas"I think Hinrich is the best all-around guard in the draft, and I would take him over T.J. Ford. He is tough, fast, and he can handle, pass, shoot and defend. The only question about his shooting is whether he can get hot and get on a roll. I think he can." -Bilas

NEW YORK KNICKS:

The Pick - Chris Kaman, C HT: 7-0½ WT: 252 Central Michigan

"The Knicks desperately need size and Kaman may fit the bill. He is fundamentally sound and will develop with time as (general manager) Scott Layden continues to rebuild." -Anthony

WASHINGTON WIZARDS:

The Pick - Luke Ridnour, PG HT: 6-2 WT: 167 Oregon

"Ridnour is an outstanding shooter and is at his best in the open court. He is error prone at times, but is a slick handler that can score with range. His defense needs to improve and he needs to get stronger, but Ridnour can help the Wizards solidify the point." -Bilas

GOLDEN STATE WARRIORS:

The Pick - Reece Gaines, PG HT: 6-6 WT: 205 Louisville

"Gaines is a big guard who can play the point or the shooting guard position. Like Wade, Gaines will scratch in a lot of different categories on a stat sheet and he can guard a variety of positions with his long arms and athleticism." -Bilas

SEATTLE SONICS:

The Pick - Michael Pietrus, SG HT: 6-6 WT: 210 France

"The Sonics are in need of some backcourt help and Pietrus would be a solid addition. He is an intriguing combo guard from France who is a better athlete than most observers realize. He's a great defender and, while he doesn't shoot with great consistency, he can make shots." -Anthony

MEMPHIS GRIZZLIES:

The Pick - Leandrinho Barbosa, PG HT: 6-4 WT: 185 Brazil

The Pick - Mike Sweetney, PF HT: 6-8 WT: 262 Georgetown

"The Grizzlies love the potential of Pietrus, but he won't be available this low. Barbosa is a big point guard who's tough, can shoot and defend." -Anthony

"Memphis needs some defensive help and would love to grab a big guard that has the versatility and toughness to guard the perimeter. However, if those types are gone, the Grizzlies could go for Sweetney or Nick Collison. Sweetney is a solid low post player that scores or gets fouled every possession and he is tough." -Bilas

-Five to Watch-
(Look for these players to possibly sneak into the lottery)

Marcus Banks, PG HT: 6-2 WT: 200 UNLV
"Banks is a leader who is strong, cocky and explosive. He could end up being the steal of this year's draft." -Anthony

Nick Collison, PF HT: 6-10 WT: 255 Kansas
"With the fascination with Euro imports right now, Collison may slip down and provide a team with a lottery talent. If Collison falls out of the lottery, the general manager that drafts him should have to wear a mask, because Collison will be a steal." -Bilas

Jarvis Hayes, SG HT: 6-7 WT: 220 Georgia
"This kid could be a guy who plays from day one. He is very explosive and would be in the lottery if it were only Americans being drafted." -Anthony

Maciej Lampe, C HT: 7-0 WT: 240 Poland
"A 7-0 shooting machine, Lampe can play pick and pop with anyone. The questions is, will he venture into the post and show some toughness." -Bilas

David West, PF HT: 6-9 WT: 226 Xavier
"West is a terrific low post scorer and rebounder, and he has long arms to complement his size. He needs to be able to put the ball on the deck and get to the basket, and he needs to hit his perimeter shots." -Bilas
