The Washington Wizards have signed guard Gary Payton II to a 10-day contract.
Payton II, listed at 6-foot-3, 190 pounds, has been in the G League this season, playing for the Rio Grande Valley Vipers. He put up huge numbers in 13 games played: 19.2 points, 8.2 rebounds, 6.6 assists and 3.4 steals per outing.
His NBA numbers so far have been a different story -- mostly due to limited playing time, of course: 3.1 points, 1.9 rebounds and 1.2 assists per game in two NBA seasons with the Bucks and Lakers.
Payton II played two seasons of college basketball at Oregon State, averaging 14.7 points, 7.7 rebounds and 4.1 assists. Both seasons, he was named Defensive Player of the Year in the Pac-12 conference and was named a First team all-conference guard.
He's the son of NBA legend Gary Payton.
There are now just 14 players on the Wizards regular season roster, plus two-way players Devin Robinson and Jordan McRae.
