The Phoenix Suns (17-56) season came nowhere close to extending into the offseason, but they've enjoyed some big bright spots in 2018-19. One was the continued fine play of big-time scoring guard Devin Booker. Another was the excellent potential shown by rookie center Deandre Ayton.
And then there's forward Kelly Oubre Jr, who since being traded to the Suns has put up the best numbers of his young NBA career: 16.9 points and 4.9 rebounds per game on 45.3% shooting in 40 games played (12 starts).
But today, after undergoing a procedure on his sprained left thumb, his season has officially ended early. THe injury took place in the team's March 16 game against the Pelicans.
Oubre should be out of action for the next four to six weeks. The NBA regular season ends in less than three weeks.
The Suns have a nice core of young talent that should make them worth watching in 2019-20.
