Lakers sign David StocktonKarl Malone once played for the Lakers, and now the team has signed Stockton as well.

Okay, not long-retired John. His son, David, who like dad is also a guard, but unlike dad isn't firmly in the league and is still trying to prove himself worthy of sticking around.

And related to the Stockton signing, the Lakers waived forward Jordan Caroline.

Stockton last season played for an overseas team: Medi Bayreuth in Germany, where he averaged 8.7 points, 3.6 assists and 2.1 rebounds in 19.8 minutes per game.

Spending the 2017-18 season in the G League, Stockton played for a team with a fitting name: the Stockton Kings. But despite coming off the bench more than he started, he put up nice numbers: 16.3 points, 3.2 rebounds, 5.3 assists and 1.8 steals in 28.2 minutes. Towards the end of that same season, he was briefly a member of the Utah Jazz.

Stockton is a longshot to stick with the team past preseason.

The Lakers roster is currently 20 players.
