The Toronto Raptors have exercised their fourth-year team option on the rookie scale contract of forward OG Anunoby.
This was an expected move.
Anunoby (6-foot-8, 232 pounds) was drafted by the Raptors 3rd overall in 2017. He hasn't had a breakout season yet in his still-new NBA career, but has done nice things off the bench and certainly looks like a rotation player.
Anunoby's average so far in the league is 6.4 points, 2.7 rebounds in 20.1 minutes per game, on solid 35.1% three-point shooting.
The Raptors, who in case you forgot are the 2019 NBA champions, begin the season with a roster that thanks to the loss of Kawhi Leonard in free agency this summer does not look like a contender for the 2020 crown. They stil have guard Kyle Lowry (who will be 34 years old by the time the 2020 playoffs begin) and center Marc Gasol (who had an amazing year, winning it all with the Raptors but also grabbing gold with Spain the World Cup - but he turns 35 in January). But Raptors success will revolve largely around the development of young forward Pascal Siakam.
But Anunoby, who is now signed through the 2020-21 season, is also worth watching.
