Quentin Richardson Interview

/ Nov. 9, 2004

Quentin RichardsonAfter four years with the Los Angeles Clippers, Quentin Richardson in the summer of 2004 signed with the Phoenix Suns. With a career average of 11.9 points and 4.6 rebounds, "Q" has game. More game than those numbers suggest. In the 2003-04 NBA season, Richardson was one of only four NBA guards to average at least 17.0 points and 6.0 rebounds per game. This summer, Q got engaged to his girlfriend, singer Brandy. InsideHoops.com editor Jeff Lenchiner recently met with Richardson for a quick exclusive interview about some random topics.

InsideHoops.com: Let's say you ran the dunk contest. It's the Q Dunk Contest. If you could invite five players to be in it - excluding your teammates, I mean I would put Amare in, but in this case, leave out the Suns -- who would you pick?

Quentin Richardson: (Thinks carefully about it) Vince [Carter]... Steve Francis... LeBron [James]... J-Rich... and probably D-mase, Desmond Mason.

InsideHoops.com: When are you gonna tell people what the origin of your head-bump move is?

Quentin Richardson: Never. Probably when I... never.

InsideHoops.com: What kind of stuff are you listening to these days?

Quentin Richardson: I got everything, but mostly listening to Young Buck, Lil Wayne, the new R. Kelly and Jay-Z, my girl's music, and a mix of a lot of the dirty south songs. I like a lot of dirty south music.

InsideHoops.com: Amare Stoudemire is going nuts. Last year after coming back from being hurt he was putting up big numbers, and now he's going nuts.

Quentin Richardson: That's little Hellboy over there. I told him, I'm starting to see the monster come out of him. I told him that today. He just keeps getting better and better. He's an unbelievable talent and he's going to be great. As long as he continues to work.

InsideHoops.com: Talk about Steve Nash. A point guard like him can change everything.

Quentin Richardson: That's the difference, right there. Having a point guard like Steve who knows how to get everybody the ball, who gives himself up, he's a pass-first type of guy but at the same time he adds a dimension, he can shoot the ball, he can drive, he can do different things, but just his leadership and the way he plays the game... just watching him run up and down, that's the look of our team, off the top.
