Meet the guy named Unnamed Sources

Good ol' "Unnamed Sources." Boy does this guy get around. From coast to coast and city to city, he seems to know everyone and everything there is to know about each team, each player and has all the telephones tapped at every team and league office.

He offers a great public service of stirring up the crazed fans. People start calling the local radio stations and their fingers tap fiercely on their keyboards on the forums as they exchange thoughts about the merit of the story good ol' Unnamed has told.

We need to thank Unnamed for all this activity. The public needs the flames of trade talks and multi-million, multi-year contracts fanned and that's what Unnamed does best.

Unnamed Strikes Again

Last night Unnamed let it be known that Toronto and New Orleans are talking about a trade. Of course, this trade would have to involve the much talked about Vince Carter. The full proposal claims that Vince Carter and Jalen Rose would be moved to New Orleans for Jamal Magloire, P.J Brown and cash.

The only unfortunate aspect of Unnamed's story is, this deal wouldn't make any sense for either team. Toronto would lose their two biggest contracts, in return for a new solid center option in the eastern conference and a good rebounding power forward. The cash involved would have to be a great sum to make this work.

Now let's analyze the proposed deal from both teams' point of view. Toronto would lose most of their ability to score from the perimeter and would be left with no player capable of creating their own shot off the dribble. New Orleans would be giving up exactly what has given them their advantage over other teams in the last few years, that is size and rebounding ability.

Let's not forget that New Orleans is now playing in the western conference, where the big center is still a premium to have, even after Shaq migrated to the East.

I want to meet Unnamed and shake him. "What are you talking about?" I would ask. "How does this make any sense?" I'm sure he would claim he can't reveal his sources, but then again, how many times do his stories actually become reality?
