Utah Jazz sign Dahntay Jones
The Utah Jazz announced today that the team has signed free-agent guard Dahntay Jones.
Jones (6-6, 225, Duke) is a 10-year NBA veteran who owns averages of 5.6 points, 1.8 rebounds and 0.9 assists in 16.3 minutes over 589 career games (157 starts) with Memphis, Indiana, Denver, Dallas, Atlanta and Sacramento. Jones, who didn’t play in the NBA last season, spent the 2012-13 campaign with Atlanta and Dallas, averaging 3.4 points and 1.3 rebounds in 13.0 minutes in 78 games (19 starts).
Originally selected in the first round (20th overall selection) of the 2003 NBA Draft by Boston prior to his rights being traded to Memphis, Jones spent his first four seasons in the league with the Grizzlies, averaging 5.1 points and 1.6 rebounds over 221 games (36 starts). He has appeared in 38 playoff games (16 starts) over six postseasons, averaging 5.2 points and 1.7 rebounds in 13.8 minutes. He started 71 regular season games and all 16 postseason contests for the Denver Nuggets team that advanced to the 2009 Western Conference Finals.
Prior to the NBA, Jones spent two seasons at Duke (2001-03) after starting his collegiate career at Rutgers. He averaged 14.3 points, 1.0 assists and 4.8 rebounds in two seasons for the Blue Devils, earning 2001 ACC All-Defensive honors following his junior year.
A native of Trenton, N.J., Jones’ first name is pronounced “DON-tay.” He will wear uniform #30 for the Jazz.
