NBA DRAFT PROSPECTS - 2002 NBA PROSPECTS

2002 NBA Draft Prospects

Our 2002 NBA draft prospects list. Be sure to check our NBA Mock Draft and tons of other draft information at the NBA Draft front page.

Last updated June 1, 2002.

Note that our mock drafts are updated more often than this list. Use the NBA Draft home page as your guide to what's most recently updated.

1. Jason Williams 6-2 195, Duke - Junior - PG
21.6 ppg, 3.5 rpg, 5.2 apg, 46 percent shooting.
Can score and beat people off the dribble. Needs work on free throw shooting and shot selection. Will go first unless the team picking is totally set at the guard spots.

2. Yao Ming 7-5 280, Shanghai Sharks (China) - C
29.7 ppg, 18.5 rpg; 69% shooting
Quick for size, can really play. Strong base, skinny upper body. Can shoot with range. The only worry with taking him is that he (well, his people in China) only want him to play for a select few teams.

3. Mike Dunleavy - Duke - Junior - SF
Naturally, we are required to wonder if he's "the next Larry Bird."

4. Caron Butler 6-7 235, Connecticut - Soph - SF
19.5 ppg, 7.6 rpg, 48 percent shooting
Tough inside, shoots from anywhere on the court. Rebounds very well.

5. Drew Gooden 6-10 230, Kansas - Junior - PF
20.3 ppg, 11.2 rpg, 51 percent shooting
Excellent athlete, rebounder, versatile enough to play SF, but a natural PF. Might be an NBA "tweener" which may cause a little concern. Very strong, jumps, has post moves.

6. Dajuan Wagner 6-2 200, Memphis - Freshman - PG
21.1 ppg, 2.5 rpg, 3.4 apg, 39 percent shooting
Scores like crazy, shooting percentage is low but he was just a freshman. Can shoot from anywhere and drive past you. The only issue is that his height says that he's an NBA point guard, but his game says shooting guard. He may have to be used like Philly uses Allen Iverson. Which isn't necessarily a bad thing.

7. Qyntel Woods 6-9 225, Northeast Mississippi C.C. Soph - SF
Multi-skilled, athletic, do-it-all type player. Great size, quickness. Good handle who can take you off the dribble or kill you from behind the arc. Compared to Tracy McGrady.

8. Nikoloz Tskitishvili 6'11" 212, Italy - F
Raw, like a 7-foot tall two-guard, can cross-over, dribble, drive, and shoot outside. Very athletic. Needs to bulk up and learn to play better defense. The next Pau Gasol?

9. Maybner Hilario 6'10" 260, Brazil - PF
11.6 ppg, 7.5 rpg, 50 percent shooting
Fantastic athlete, has post game, rebounds, blocks shots. Very aggressive. Could go much higher.

10. Chris Wilcox 6-10 225, Maryland - Soph - PF
11.6 ppg, 7.5 rpg, 50 percent shooting
Great athlete, has unlimited potential. Soft touch around the basket, can also rebound and block shots. Developing nice post moves. Many think he'll develop into something special.

11. Curtis Borchardt 7-0 230, Stanford - Junior - C
17 ppg, 11.4 rpg, 2.8 bpg, 58 percent shooting
Big man with a number of post moves. Good rebounder and shot blocker. Has 3 point range. Not the strongest guy in the world. Has had injury problems. Some worry he'll be a stiff.

12. Amare Stoudemire 6-10 240, Cypress Creek H.S. - HS Senior - PF
30 ppg, 16 rpg, 6 bpg (HS)
A physical monster. Tries to dunk everything, but needs to improve jump-shot. Has the desire to work hard to develop an NBA game.

13. Jared Jeffries 6-10 220, Indiana - Soph - SF
15.2 ppg, 7.2 rpg, 45 percent shooting
Knows the game. Can do everything. Great handle, can score inside and out. Rebounds well. Can create for other players, as well as himself. Does he really have an NBA body, or is he meant for college?

14. Kareem Rush 6-6 215, Missouri - Junior - SG
20.1 ppg, 3.5 rpg, 5.1 apg, 43 percent shooting
An outside shooter.

15. Bosjan Nachbar 6-8 220, Benetton Treviso (Italy) - Gifted athlete, with a nice outside shooting touch. Like we predicted, his stock has risen considerably.

16. Melvin Ely 6-10 256, Fresno State - Senior - PF
23.5 ppg, 9.1 rpg, 3.3 bpg, 56 percent shooting
Excellent shot-blocker, good athlete for big man. Has put on weight to help his post game. Does he have the desire to keep improving?

17. Marcus Haislip 6-9 220, Tennessee - Junior - PF
16.7 ppg, 6.7 rpg, 1.8 bpg, 52 percent shooting.
Incredible athlete. Jumps out of the gym, and extremely strong. Excellent shot blocker. Still developing offensively. Massive potential, could go much higher.

18. Dan Dickau 6-1 189, Gonzaga - PG
20.8 ppg, 4.9 apg, 45 percent shooting.
Lightning quick point guard who can drive and shoot with range. Understands how to be a point guard. Like John Stockton, he went to Gonzaga. Will he imitate Stockton in the NBA? Needs to improve defense. Stock is rising.

19. Frank Williams 6-3 205, Illinois - Junior - PG
15.8 ppg, 4.7 rpg, 4.2 apg, 38 percent shooting.
Strong point guard with great handle and passing abilities. Can score, but lacks speed. Excellent defender. Could go anywhere in the first round depending on how workouts go.

20. Jiri Welsch 6-6 205, Czech Republic - G
Guard who can play both positions.

21. Carlos Boozer 6-9 270, Duke - Junior - PF
18.1 ppg, 8.9 rpg, 5.2 apg, 66 percent shooting.
Huge frame, strong and agile. Solid post game and can make mid-range shots.

22. Roger Mason 6-5 201, Virginia - Junior - PG
Ability to play both guard positions should make him a first rounder. Excellent shooter who can also create for teammates.

23. Jason Jennings 7-0 250, Arkansas St. - Runs the floor well for big man. Soft touch around the basket. Strength an asset, good shot blocker.

24. Rod Grizzard 6-8 205, Alabama - Very athletic, offensive minded player who can play shooting guard and small forward. Injuries may be a concern.

25. Dan Gadzuric 6-11 245, UCLA - Senior - Center
11.3 ppg, 7.6 rpg, 1.2 bpg, 55 percent shooting.
Very athletic. Has had injury problems. Skills aren't developing as quickly as hoped.

26. Sam Clancy 6-7 240, Southern California - SF
19 ppg, 9.5 rpg, 50 percent shooting.
Has added a 20 foot jumper to enhance offensive game. Can rebound with the best. Excellent footwork. Size is questionable.

27. Steve Logan 6-0 196, Cincinnati - Could be a steal if he drops this late. Very quick, explosive point guard who has the ability to take games over when called upon. Staying all 4 years a plus.

28. Luis Scola 6-10 230 PF, Argentina - Strong big man with a nice shooting touch and good moves in the post.

29. Boris Diaw-Riffiod, 6'7'' 201, France - A rare European who loves playing above the rim. He has explosive leaping ability and is a good rebounder and passer for his size.

30. Chris Jefferies, 6'8'' 220, Fresno State - Athletic forward, excellent defender. Needs to polish offensive game.

31. Mladen Sekularac, 6'8'' 205, Yugoslavia - Good quickness for size. Enjoys playing on the break, runs the floor well.
