The following are some T.J. Warren pre-draft interview quotes from Wednesday, one day before the 2014 NBA Draft. Warren attended North Carolina State, and is a talented 2014 NBA draft prospect:
Question: Of this draft class, who would you like to be drafted alongside?
T.J. Warren: Elfrid Payton. Me and Elfrid met like two months ago, we were preparing for the draft. Just getting familiar with him and with his game, he’s a great player.
Question: What do you think you’ll be feeling when your name is called?
Warren: It’ll be a great feeling. I’ve been waiting 20 years for this, so it’ll be a great feeling for me.
Question: Did you work out with the Celtics? How did it go?
Warren: Yes. It went very well, I really enjoyed it. Brad Stevens, Danny Ainge – they’re a good group of guys. Overall, it was a great organization.
Question: What was that like, going up there? It seems like they might be looking at you for that 17th pick.
Warren: It was fun, it was a great experience to be around an NBA organization. Just learning from both guys and being able to compete in front of NBA coaches is big.
Question: How have you been trying to convince teams you’re more than just a scorer?
Warren: Just showing I can defend. For me scoring the ball so well, people don’t really appreciate the other things I do. Just trying to show my all-around game.
Question: Is there anything you’ve worked on since school to focus specifically on defense?
Warren: Just improving my body even more and keeping a strong focus. It really translated well to the workouts.
Question: What’s the entire draft process been like?
Warren: It’s been a long process. I’m very fortunate to be in this position and being able to compete in front of NBA teams to show them what I can do at the next level.
Question: I know it’s been a grind, but what has been your favorite part of the process?
Warren: Just interacting with all of the other draft prospects. You only do this one time in your life, so you just have to embrace it.
Question: Why was this the right time for you to come out?
Warren: I just felt confident. I had a positive feel for it. I wouldn’t be doing this if I didn’t feel confident. I’ve been getting great advice and good feedback, so I thought this was the right decision.
